During a trip to Chicago in June 2003, I went to Buddy Guy's club hoping to see the man himself, who was known to hang out in his club whenever he was in town.
Sure enough, Buddy Guy was there, sitting at the end of the bar.
Everybody in the club was waiting in anticipation, waiting for the Blues master to get onstage at some point during the night and play a few songs.
And he did and he rocked the house.
Later on that night, there was a man walking around the club shaking everybody's hands.
I couldn't make out who it was until he walked up to me.
It was Pinetop Perkins.
After shaking the last hand, he went onstage and played beautifully for about 30 minutes.
That was the first and only time I saw Pinetop Perkins.
