Richie Sambora Is Still in No Rush to Reunite With Bon Jovi
Richie Sambora still has a “never say never” attitude toward the idea of reuniting with Bon Jovi, but fans shouldn’t expect it to happen anytime soon.
“I’m not ruling it out, because I think I would do it a lot for the fans there, because they were so important to us,” Sambora told ABC News Radio during a recent interview. “I wouldn’t want to go out and do those long tours anymore, but … I love those guys, man, and I’m not shunning it whatsoever … Man, we had a run. Thirty years is a run.”
Questioned further regarding the reasons behind his surprising split with longtime partner Jon Bon Jovi two years ago, Sambora shrugged that he “needed a change” and added that he wanted to get back to a situation where he was responsible for lead vocals — but reiterated that the band’s grueling schedule was the main factor in his departure.
“[When] we went to work, we went to work,” explained Sambora. “And Jon and I were primary songwriters for that band, so I gotta be there from the beginning … So right after [the band finishes a tour], you go into the studio. So that’s … three months there. Maybe you got a month off, then you start the promotional tour and then, it’s 16-and-a-half months on the road. That was a normal tour for us. There was some breaks, but not significant, you know.”
Sambora is currently at work on the first full-length release of his post-Bon Jovi career, a collaborative album with his girlfriend and fellow guitarist Orianthi. Bon Jovi, meanwhile, are set to soldier on without Sambora with their upcoming album Burning Bridges.
