I f@#!!g hate downloads. I really miss going to record stores and browsing through all the new as well as old stuff.

I rip my CDs for my iPod, but I just can't understand people who are willing to pay money for a download. It feels like paying for nothing to me, it has no value. I've been lucky in my life so far. I was born and raised in Denmark, and always had an independent record store nearby (even in the small town I grew up in), the same was the case in Vienna, Austria and now that I've moved to Greece, there's still a couple of really nice independent record stores nearby.

I am just glad we have it and still have access to vinyl. sure its marketing so what it encourages record store to carry vinyl, provides the means to and opportunity for small brick and mortar stores to sell and make money. its a reason there for those store to stay in business

Agree with ya, Jim. Ironically, the big chain stores have also jumped on the vinyl bandwagon.

100% agree with you. I want something that I can look at while listening to an album for the first time.

Regarding record stores over here, most of the old time record stores are gone. There are a lot of second hand music stores and stalls at various monthly markets which I go to to get my record/cd fix.

Even worse than paying for a download, is the scourge of piracy. I feel guilty, as if I shoplifted the album, if I listen to a downloaded album. I feel very strongly that this alone has had a lot to do with the decline of the music industry.

Exactly Mr. Jim! That's what I was trying to say. It's kind of sad Home of the Hits didn't hang on a little longer because I'm sure that place would have been mobbed on Record Store Day but once they seen digital downloads coming into the picture they got out

here the are these rather large chain 2nd hand stores they are carrying loads of vinyl new and used.

Its kind of funny though cause most of the big places are loaded with new vinyl from the record labels that are creating vinyl from CD sources and fetching more bucks than the CD's. head scratcher but it happening.

but again I sorta glad even that is happening because it created the good too

That was Apollo Records...that guy actually was in ways similar to our friend from Zounds 2001 (I later found out) in that he could get you anything you were looking for. He got me a few Thunders videos and made up a Hodge podge video of different bands like Thunders, Hanoi Rocks, Chesterfield Kings, Cramps... Nobody was like the guy from Zoundz but that guy from Apollo was good too... He closed up shop & moved to San Fran.

One other shop that is worth checking (well it used to be...I know it's still running) is the House of Guitars in Rochester....the place is huge and that's once you get passed the guitar part. The place is wild with tons of records, cd's, memorabilia but it's not organized too well. The one time I went there and was amazed at how many Chesterfield Kings cd's they had(& this was back around 2000). I had bought a couple and when I opened them up I noticed it was recorded at the same address as the House of Guitars and I looked at the band photo and the lead singer is who cashed me out! No wonder he was nice to us!

Apollo yeah little tiny place. the first couple times we went in there it felt sort of strange. but then it was good.

Zounds oh man that guy was the snitz! miracle worker who could get most anything. I think his names was Ted... I have written down on my old ramones ticket stub. I remember coming across something about the city trying to kick him out his house because it was eyesore.

That guy was something, nit sure I would want to live next to him, but he was always a good guy and was interested in what you were doing and what you liked to listen to.

We don't really have a record store day. I love going to the record store and looking through thousands of cds. It's a ton of fun but it would be more fun with Record Store Day I'm sure.

Highly collectable replica of the original 1973 Stratus single, which the Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer recorded with bandmate Jan Hammer.

FOCUS: HOCUS POCUS (MUSIC ON VINYL)

Yellow vinyl reissue of one of the Dutch band’s best-known singles. Originally released in 1971, this release includes both the US and European versions of the track.

GOBLIN: SUSPIRIA/BLIND CONCERT (AMS)

Purple vinyl release of one of Goblin’s best known title tracks with an exclusive poster featuring the original movie’s artwork.

GUY GARVEY: UNWIND (POLYDOR)

The second single taken from the Elbow frontman’s debut solo album Courting The Squall.

HAWKWIND: HASSAN I SAHBA/DAMNATION ALLEY PART 2 (ATOMHENGE)

Remastered clear vinyl version of this very rare Italian single from 1977 with picture sleeve replicated from the original edition.

BERT JANSCH: BLACK BIRDS OF BRITTANY (EARTH RECORDINGS)

Originally released as a split single with Shirley Collins in 1979, this exclusive and very limited edition reissue of Black Birds… also includes the previously unreleased Cuckoo.

Teaser single taken from the musician’s forthcoming album Electronica V.2, which is officially out on May 6.

MICK KARN: THE JUMP (INVISIBLE HANDS MUSIC)

Released for the first time as a single, this is the opening track from the late Japan bassist’s 2004 album More Better Different.
