What is the Joe Bonamassa release? I'll put that on my list!

An eight-track album entitled Record Store Day Exclusive. Only 2500 copies will be pressed in 180g black vinyl. It includes Ball Peen Hammer, Jelly Roll, Love Ain’t A Love Song, Woke Up Dreaming plus previously-unreleased acoustic versions of those songs.

Record Store Day was crazy here in Buffalo! I wrote out a list and of course I forgot it but the main thing I wanted was the Johnny Thunders at Max's record set. We found out that Record Theatre was opening at 9am & we got there at about 9:15. There was a line outside the door of at least 100 people!! I knew a small record shop called Spiral Scratch was opening at 10 so we got there about 9:35 and there were 5 people waiting to get in so we waited. There were 2 guys around my age or older talking about Genesis and 3 teens so I figured I definitely would be getting my record . Doors open & the 4 of the 5 in front of me grabbed the Thunders record leaving one which I did grab but it was close!

I picked up the Thunders album there and an ep by the Stains that was on the counter at the register which sounded interesting "John Wayne was a Nazi". That place was tiny and it was so full we couldn't even really look around so we left. We went home and I laid down for a few hours because of my messed up back and then headed out to another Record Theatre Location.

I was looking forward to this as a friend's band Governess was playing at the store(they're a cool sounding band...Motorhead meets 70's Punk meets a bit of Glam). I also caught two cool bands from New Jersey...Battery Electric and Hot Blood which I ended up buying cd's from both bands. Battery Electric really had a great sound and their CD is phenomenal with a hard rock w/ a metal and punk edge sound(with even a bit of 60's soul w/a hint of early J. Geil's on a couple of tunes). Hot Blood had a thrash Metal /Punk sound (a lot of songs reminded me a bit of World Painted Blood by Slayer). We had a great time watching the bands and I also picked up the Stooges "Have Some Fun Live at Ungano's" and an ep by the Stones "Got Live if you Want it" which featured live versions of Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, Pain in my Heart/ Route 66, I'm Movin' on, & I'm Alright.

So the Record Store Day Releases I got were...

Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers "Live at Max's"

Stooges "Have Some Fun Live at Unganos"

Battery Electric "The Heart & Thrill"

Hot Blood "No Kings"

The Stains "John Wayne was a Nazi" EP

Rolling Stones "Got Live if you Want it" EP

Nice buck I end up going the lines were going to long and I just wasn't compelled. I am going to head over tomm. before lunch to puck through the scraps. A lot of the time folks here aren't interested in the things I seem to be drawn to so who knows.

Just a downer weekend for me here

Sorry to hear of your downer weekend Mr. Jim...Man, at the Record Store Day here at the Record Theatre with the live bands I can't help but think that we probably would've been there all day in the 80's when were in our youths!

Well, Amazon screwed me over concerning that Blackberry Smoke 10", but it wasn't totally unexpected, as the whole preorder thing goes against the Record Store Day policy, but it was worth a try I guess. I was lucky enough to find a fairly priced copy in an English store, after closing time, so it's on its way.

Joe Bonamassa's "Record Store Day Exclusive" is not that limited and already all over the Internet, so I'll order that one of these days.

As for the rest, I'll be going to Vienna next weekend (seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd there next Tuesday) and will have a look around record stores there, to see if there's anything left. Down here in Athens, Greece, they have terrible distribution for Record Store Day, so I reckon I won't find anything here.

Can't blame ya. I've seen Alice before and would go again!

Call me a cynic, but record store day is just another marketing ploy. The corporates are milking vinyl for all and more than it's worth. The sad thing is that it is driving up the prices of second hand vinyl so that a lot of real vinyl collectors can no longer afford to buy.
