The first thing that comes to mind when hearing this song is that there could never be a Sex Pistols today...at least not one that would become this popular. The men behind the curtain would never allow it. Doesn't fit the narrative. Gotta keep these people asleep. We sure don't want them angered...
I think Green Day got about as close as anyone in recent times when they put out the song, American Idiot. And even that was somewhat tame in comparison. At any rate, the Pistols were a true punk band who managed to win over more than a few fans in their day. For putting out a ballsy, yet catchy punk song that dared to challenge authority, I give this an 8/10.
The thing what got to me at the time of this song was the ballsy content, the energy and a catchy melody. During that period in Disco land you had the usual disco songs (yawn, yawn and yawn) and you had the usual dancers on the floor (usually 40% of total people at the disco) but when 'God Save The Queen' was played suddenly 80% of people at the disco were dancing and very enthusiastically indeed. I think by design or by inardvertence the song has a primeval pull which makes us human to exhibit our feelings to the energy and melodic pull of the song.
