Question Regarding Attached Images

When I attach a photo to a post I do so from my attachment folder having first uploaded the image there. Are attached images embedded in the post or simply linked? In other words, if I delete the image from my folder will it also disappear from the post?

I've never used attachments myself but I would think that if the original source disappears the image would as well. Maybe someone who uses attachments might have a different answer.

In short, yes the photo in the post will disappear.
