Totally depends on mood and who is around. I don't like to have to explain a lot of the Prog rock themes to my kids but the Southern rock speaks for itself.

For the most part, progressive.

I can't choose, to be honest. I like both and listen to both, but I do listen to Southern Rock a tad more often.

Over the years I learned to like a few southern rock songs but more "progressive" music grabs my interest more. I do have some issues with certain prog bands though and that deals with mostly the newer prog bands because they seem to be following cookie cutter cliches as to what makes them "progressive" and some of them sound too mathematical and sacrifice feel and a good groove. In those cases I would rather listen to for example some good rocking stuff like bad company rather than spiral architect.

Although I like ZZ Top, it's Progressive Rock for me with ELO, Electric Light Orchestra and Genesis with Phil Collins as frontman!
