WUH!?

In the past few years, there’s been talk — and just talk — of a possible Pantera reunion with Zakk Wylde filling the spot left by the late Dimebag Darrell. In a new interview, vocalist Philip Anselmo reiterates that the idea is still very intriguing to him, and that he continues to discuss the possibility with Wylde.

Anselmo’s band Down are currently opening for Wylde’s Black Label Society, and Anselmo has been jamming the Pantera classic ‘I’m Broken’ with BLS at several stops. In fact, at the recent Dallas stop, Pantera bassist Rex Brown joined in for a performance of the song (watch below), essentially making up three-quarters of what would be the proposed Pantera lineup if they were to reunite.

In a new interview with Matt Pinfield of Fanpass at Rock on the Range (watch above), Anselmo responded to the reunion question as follows, “At the end of the day, there would have to be a meeting at a table — or without a table — between Rex, Vince [Vinnie Paul] and I, and there would have to be a big-time understanding between the two of us [Vinnie and Philip] before anything happens at all. Otherwise I think … There is a great percentage of me that says, ‘This generation deserves it. Let’s do it.’ And then there’s a reservation in me that says, ‘You know what, man? Legacies get passed down. This, that, the other. Maybe we should leave it alone and just let it be part of lore and the history and whatnot.’”

He adds, “If there was ever a proper presentation, like, OK, Pantera is back together, Zakk’s on guitar, that would be a massive feeling. That would be outrageous. And I would go to war. I would be in the best shape possible.”
For his part, drummer Vinnie Paul said that if a reunion were ever to take place, Wylde would be his choice to fill in for Dimebag, but later stressed that there’s no chance of that happening.

No thanks. No Dimebag for me = no Pantera and never will be again.

I doubt that this will ever happen, but if it did, I can't think of a better replacement for Darrell than Zakk

Riff: I agree, he can't be "replaced" and I really don't see this happening, but Zakk and Darrell had very similar styles and were best buds thus the reason that I can see even a small reunion show or small tour (if it were ever to happen) would have to be Zakk playing.

I also don't think most fans would be very welcoming of anyone other than him, and even then, it might not be very welcome. *shrug*

I like Zakk too and agree he has a very similar style. I just don't think it would be right to do this and call it a reunion when it cannot truly be as such. I also doubt Phil and Vinnie would patch things up anyway.

Zakk could do the job, but I don't want to see it happen. Out of respect for Dimebag, they should leave it be. Besides, both Zakk and Phil or doing fine with their respective bands.

Honestly, every other band in the G-D world reunites and tours no matter if all the important members quit or pass away. I wouldn't have any problem with Pantera doing it, I'd like to have a chance to see them.

Exactly. People should just leave it be.
