Boston’s New Lead Singer Promises Upcoming Album Will Be Worth the Wait
by: Dave Swanson 3 hours ago

Boston mastermind Tom Scholz has never been known for his quick turnaround on new albums. Though a new album is in the works from the band, recently appointed lead singer Tommy DeCarlo has wisely suggested fans may not want to hold their breath while waiting for it.

As he told Classic Rock Magazine, “Unfortunately I don’t have a time frame on that… Tom’s quite a perfectionist when it comes to his sound and his music. It’s not always done in a timely fashion.” Scholz had previously said the album is “85 percent complete.” The proposed new album would be only their sixth in a 36-year career. The previous Boston album, ‘Corporate America,’ dates back to 2002.

DeCarlo took on lead vocal duties last year following the departure of Michael Sweet of Stryper, who had been fronting the band since the suicide of original singer Brad Delp in 2007. He promises the new album will be worth the weight. “When it gets done,” he said, “it’s fantastic. I’m with all the fans, I’m excited to hear it myself. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.”

Hard to express my complete lack of interest or enthusiasm for another Tom Scholz, I mean Boston album.

But it beats reading about ongoing legal drama concerning him and his fight with just about everyone involved with him over the years.

Agreed. It's going to be a different band in my book. I have respect for Brad at this point and with all the back lash talk about Tom's conduct, I'm going to be hesitant till I'm 100% sure I like it enough to buy it..

Someone was trying to get me to buy tickets for the local Boston concert this weekend. I had to say no and inform them that Boston, from what I can tell, is nothing more than a cover band. Tom Scholz being the only original member and with Delp's voice no longer in play, I just don't see how anyone outside of Tom's camp could even consider this band to be "Boston".

Can't argue with your rationale, but the show is really killer.

wait a sec... just being devils advocate here. was boston anything other than a tom scholz vehicle?, i remember he spent ages in his home studio on the first album. of course delp is probably the most recognizable of the voice behind boston.
the question is was boston ever really a band?

Boston performed live with the rest of the ensemble/lineup so yes, they were a band

If memory serves me correctly, Tom did play most of the instruments in the studio and of course Delp's vocals can't be faked. But since they did tour as a band, I'd have to say they were a band. Most musicians can be replaced (not all, but the vast majority can), even when/if they have a signature style and sound, but vocals are definitely the toughest thing to try to recreate, IMHO. There are some incredible singers out there that do a great job covering other artists, but some of the biggest names in rock are just unique enough that it's not the same without the original.

One thing I give a LOT of credit to AC/DC for, is that when Bon Scott passed away, they replaced him with someone that sounded NOTHING like Bon, and continued on.
