The San Jose Mercury News reports that a San Carlos, California warehouse filled with Neil Young's music equipment, vintage cars and other memorabilia burned in a three-alarm blaze early Tuesday, causing an estimated $1.1 million in damage.

Workers and friends spent the day moving guitars, canisters of film, framed photos and other items that had been in the warehouse. Young, who lives in a home near La Honda, arrived at the site late in the day and surveyed the destruction.

The roughly 10,000-square-foot building sustained $300,000 in damage, and Young's possessions that burned were worth about $800,000, said Belmont-San Carlos Fire Marshal Jim Palisi. "A lot of it is musical instruments and electronic equipment,"he said. "It's very expensive." Luckily no one was injured in the fire.

I've had that happen to me, losing irreplaceable belongings in a fire. I am glad it's just a storage warehouse and no one was hurt but I bet Neil is going to be sad about what he lost that he can't replace no matter how much money he has.

That's truly terrible. Good thing Neil seems like such a well-adjusted guy these days, so I'm sure he'll get through it in stride.

good thing no one was hurt.

Here is how I feel about the possessions: If they were "prize" possessions, they wouldn't be stored hours from his home, and they wouldn't have been in a warehouse. These were probably just items he has collected and saved over the years that have value because they belong to Neil Young. Electronic equip and such can be expensive, but if it is OLD outdated stuff, then it would be hard to say how much it was all worth..........I bet he had it heavily insured :D

California fire officials in say the fire was started in a vintage car (1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV convertible) that Neil Young had converted into a hybrid vehicle.

What did the car do.....spontaneously combust? Now I am curious to hear the final verdict on what ignited the fire.
