Looks like he actually died 3 days ago, but they are just releasing the info now. (kind of odd)

Neil Peart, the drummer and lyricist for Rush, died Tuesday, January 7th, in Santa Monica, California at age 67. The cause was brain cancer, which he had been quietly battling for three years, according to Elliot Mintz, a spokesperson for the Peart family. A representative for the band confirmed the news to Rolling Stone.

Big loss. One of the greatest drummers to grace our ears musically. My 2 favourite albums as performances of his goes are Fly By Night and 2112. The former although being relatively still newish to the band was finding his stride but 2112 was a drumming performance to marvel at. Many will cite albums like Moving Pictures but for me it was more complex efforts such as 2112. In reality though he continued to evolve his drumming through different eras even up to the end with Clockwork Angels.

Shocked and saddened. I started out "hating Rush" but turned into a Rush fan one day when I was in the shower and couldn't turn off the radio when a Rush song came on. I had an epiphany when I listened to the lyrics and fell in love with the music.

I was fortunate to have seen Rush in San Diego, CA on my 32nd birthday; it was magical.

RIP Mr. Peart. Thanks for being so awesome.
