Re: Motorhead

I have never really been into this type of speed metal, but for some reason I enjoy Motorhead. I bought their Rock N Roll album in the early 90's and loved it. Generally I call this music Bang on drums, wail on guitar and scream into mike. This is still the only band that plays this type of metal that I enjoy. Can't stand Iron Maiden, or Megadeath, Pantera and so on. Motorhead has something about them that I can't explain.

Re: Motorhead

^^It's funny I much prefer the bands you can't stand to Motorhead, there is something about them that never....reached me for lack of a better way to describe it. Ace of Spades is the only song of theirs I have, I better run before Sox and the gang chase me out of here...:peek

Re: Motorhead

I remember buying an Iron Maiden album in the mid 80's, not even sure what it was. Played side A, and thought, wow. this is bad. I can get the same sound crushing some ice in a blender. Funny, I'm wearing an Iron Maiden
Number of the Beast T Shirt right now. Love their album covers, as well as Motorheads. Speed metal, or whatever you call it doesn't have a pleasant
sound. I really could never figure out the appeal. The bands that defined popular music (Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin and others) had enjoyable and listenable music. To me speed metal bands were about an image. People loved what they represented. I had the same feelings about Punk when it started out. You can't dance to it, you can't listen to it for too long or
you'll get a migraine. I love the hard rock bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, KIss,
Def Leppard and so forth, but this music is way different. People labelled them metal, but I always thought of them as heavy rock. The problem I have with the speed metal, is everything is jumbled into one big noise and the beat is always the same. Every song sounds the same.

Re: Motorhead

I've never considered Maiden a speed metal band, I like them and feel they have a variety on their albums. Metallca and Megadeth are thrash/speed metal but I only listen to that kind of metal once in a while, same goes for Slayer.

It's ironic, I liked Lemmy fine in Hawkwind but as the frontman for a legendary metal band I just never got into them, I do love their logo though one of the best in rock period.:grinthumb

Phil Campbell

Happy birthday to Phil Campbell of Motorhead!

Philip Anthony Campbell, born on May 7, 1961 in Pontypridd, Wales, has been the lead guitarist of the British heavy metal band Motörhead since 1984. He is also the former guitarist of Persian Risk.

Campbell started playing guitar when he was 10 years old, inspired by guitarists such as: Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, Michael Schenker and Todd Rundgren. At the age of 12, Campbell got Lemmy’s autograph after a Hawkwind gig. He bought his first Les Paul in 1978 at a New Year’s day guitar sale at a shop on Ealing Broadway, London; following the fate of many of his guitars, it was stolen.

Re: Motorhead - 70's Edition (Official Thread)

Had to nip into town to do a bit of shopping and this song just about sums it up.

The band that unwinds me. :grinthumb

Re: Motorhead - 70's Edition (Official Thread)

I'm sure there are some Motorhead fans around here that would dig this one.

Motorhead - The Trooper (Iron Maiden cover)

Not sure if it was Lemmy solo or Motorhead doing the cover. *shrug*

I think the music is pretty cool and they did a good job with that, but Lemmy's voice is something I have a very hard time getting past. He sounds like Bruce Springsteen looks when he's singing (like he's gotta take a really painful shit).
