Disagree about a part of that being their job? If that is what you meant, it sort of is. Some do choose to keep a little more quiet about their lives but the public/their fans want interviews so they can listen and learn from the artist (though not all interviews teach you something positive about the person, lol). I think everyone knows how much I love Zep and I love interviews with the band. I am very interested on what they have to say about things and I don't care what they talk about. They can talk about rocks for all I care, I just want to hear what they have to say about it. It also keeps celebs in the spotlight.

I think in Kurt's case, a lot of people got the wrong idea and he just wanted to correct it so people could better understand.

I could be wrong but I think I read somewhere that Kurt hated interviews and would rather not have to do them. Don't quote me on that one, though!

Nope you are right. He hated doing interviews for corporate magazines. Fanzines he loved doing them since they would ask questions about the music not his personal life.

I think I want to hear from them, but subconsciousness I like having the mystery behind the artists, I love it when there are all these rumors and no one can prove or disprove them, it keeps it fun, and honestly I'd rather read about someone's opinion about them from a magazine or my favorite artists' opinions on other artists, but that is just me personally, and with Kurt, even with an interview would people really understand anyways?... He was pretty out there...
and I don't think it is part of their job at all... their job is to make music and nothing else.... if they want to do something else fine, but just because they are famous because they were/are good at guitar or sing nicely doesn't mean they need to star in movies or do magazine shoots or anything....

I could just be putting words in Fox's mouth, so Fox no offense met if I am wrong, but I'm thinking he means outside of the music, like what those rock stars say to the press and in interviews and all that....

That's true as well. Overall though I'm not looking for meaningful insights in rock lyrics - but it especially irritates me when fans or the press treat a musician as some type of seer whose opinions on many and varied topics should be particularly valued.

I agree with AK and Disagree with my esteemed flea bitten friend Fox...there is Nothing wrong with a song having a good story, in which the lyrics are equal or more important than the music. I like both straight ahead mindless party rock like the Stones, and I like well crafted songs that many artists put their heart and soul into as well.

And I would wager the Penthouse in Toronto that Fox Owns many albums that contain songs that relate a good story or illuminate a philosophy that is relevant.

how is rhyming libido with mosquito cyriptic lyrics. It's one thing to not be deep lyrics its another thing to be absolutely non sensical.

Going to have to disagree with the reasons for Nirvana being overrated.

Cobain was actually a good guitarist, better then average.

He played in a so called grunge band that was really just a Punk band. Punk bands do not really need to have their lyrics be heard coherently.

Before you bring up the lyrics like you have in other forums, they are called cryptic lyrics. They are much more original then in your face songs IMO and that takes talent.

Nirvana are not the most overrated band in the 90's.

Green Day, Offspring, Nu-Metal bands, and Nine Inch Nails are the most overrated bands in the 90's.

I hate that word as well, but these bands are nothing quite honestly. Green Day had only one really worth while record. Same can be said about the Offspring. Nu Metal always sucked.

Nirvana played a huge part in exposing the mainstream to amazing music that would be overlooked because the bands they exposed were indie bands with little press.

LG I agree. Mudhoney is the most overlooked band that came from Seattle. They are the reason for Nirvana's explosion since they one influenced Nirvana and two since they went over to Europe and were well received which created the Hype in Seattle.

Nirvana was not intended to be the break out band from Seattle. Mudhoney was. The only problem was Mudhoney was not melodic like Nirvana.

I could go on and on and on.

The people who say Nirvana are overrated.... well let me rephrase that. One of the most overrated bands in the 90's have no clue.

Are they overrated as a band? No was Cobain? As a guitarist that can be argued because he was a good guitarist and I have yet to hear anyone get the same tone or sounds from their guitar like he did.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I don't go to rock musicians for insights into the human condition. If I want insights into the human condition, I'll read a book.

Makes me think of another thread I was in today. I don't buy Aerosmith music because I want Steven Tyler judging contestants on American Idol. I want him either on tour, writing songs or in the studio recording songs. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. Hell, the lyrics don't even have to be "good" if his voice is up to snuff and the rhythm section brings their A-game.

Makes me think of another thread I was in today. I don't buy Aerosmith music because I want Steven Tyler judging contestants on American Idol. I want him either on tour, writing songs or in the studio recording songs. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. Yeah but Areosmith hzve been bringing in outside songwriters which is really weird for rock groups and even weirder for a band with that stature of Aerosmith,

I've never been one to call bands overrated, especially if they are really influential or unique (such as Radiohead, Nirvana, or RATM). However, I feel the Spice Girls are extremely overrated, as with 95% of Nu-Metal (particularly Linkin Park).
