OK, I know that very few of us around here take the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame very seriously...but when I heard tonight that Madonna's going in, that really took the cake.

Now, I'm not really an anti-Madonna person like a lot of folks. I actually have enjoyed a fair amount of her music, and she actually occupies a small corner of my CD collection--but Rock and Roll Hall of Fame??? This is one woman who should have never made it there, even at the low level of credibility that Rock Hall has descended to in recent years.

And John Mellencamp isn't all that bad, but can these folks have really exhausted all of the deserving artists and groups that have still not been given this recognition.

I think of the band Yes immediately...they're still not in, right? Maybe at this point they should wear their exclusion like a medal...

Yeah, it is somewhat of a joke isnt it.

IMO, Madonna shouldn't even be allowed to clean the restrooms in the Hall of Fame.

I think Mellencamp is deserving......just not yet, there are many before him that have yet to get in. But I do think he is important, because I think that his music, and to a lesser extent Springsteen's, are kind of a niche market representing blue collar America.

I really don't like the above statement, but am having a hard time articulating exactly what I mean. It's like this, when I hear the Stones, and a million other groups, I think about sex, drugs, and rock and roll. When I hear Mellencamp, I think of BBQ's, beer, Chevys, kind of reflective of life that I know I experienced growing up in a relatively rural environment. Kind of a picture postcard of America, and certainly part of its musical lanscape.

If anyone gets that, you are doing better than I.

madonna deserves to be in the hall of fame a hell of a lot more than chic deserved to be nominated a 2nd time.

Just a means of self promotion for people who'll foot the bill to buy in when invited.

I think a new prog band will come along and make a lot of money and then a lot of prog bands will get in the hall of fame.

I think that's basically what happened with all the new wave acts.

It would be interesting if that new prog band ended up being Akron/Family...but I'm not sure if they're quite prog enough.
