Yeah it's hard to say..we all knew Chris Stann back in the day. I think it was a gimmick turned method acting if that made any sense. Stanley didn't bathe that's a fact. When we would run into him at the Avalon or anyplace in Chicago you had to step back a bit.
I think it was his way of feeling for the little guy...there was a story when they were doing this show in L.A. and Stanley decided to come in through the front door. The doorman thinking he was homeless and smelly said" You can't come in here"
Stanley trying to explain that he was in the band.
Alex Kane the guitar player came up and said..."He's in the band..you have to let him in he's our singer"
So..there ya go...let's say he "practiced"at the homeless thing to be in touch with the streets and he was a pretty withdrawn person.

I played and was part of the thirsty Whale reunion show a few months back...and Alex Kane (guitar player) was supposed to be there but could not be (He plays with Marky Ramone now) and here is his meesage that was sent to the reunion festival.
