Leon Russell Dies at Age 74

Musician and songwriter Leon Russell died in his sleep at the age of 74, according to a post on his official Facebook page.

Over a career that spanned nearly six decades, Russell worked as a solo artist, songwriter and session musician. In recent years, he teamed up with Elton John for the 2010 album The Union and released his final solo album, Life Journey, in 2014.

Russell suffered a heart attack back in July, but was expected to make a full recovery. The cause of his death is as yet unknown. We will have more on this developing story shortly.

Saw this earlier and was totally shocked, despite the heart attack earlier this year. Such an overlooked and underappreciated multitalent. A huge loss and the sad thing is a lot of casual music fans don't even know who he is. Maybe, hopefully, his passing will bring him the attention and acknowledgement he deserves.
