I often wonder if a lot of people enjoy bootlegs more for the nostalgia side of it of the time they recorded it or somehow acquired it at that time.

I think if you were at a particular show, there would definitely be some sort of sentimental value to the recording, and of course, if you did the recording yourself... but overall, I just don't see the desire of most of it.

Then again, I don't get why people like mono over stereo, or LP over CD, so wtf do I know?

Maybe it gives them that sense of being "present" in that moment, or getting a feel for how the concert experience was for that particular band. With the sound quality being so bad on some of them it's giving a wrong impression IMO. Who knows?

I also like CD's more Lynchster.

I hardly ever multiquote but just have to say that I could convert both of you to the analog side if you sat in my main room and listened to all 4 different CD releases I have of Zeppelin and the last Excellent vinyl albums done with tender loving care. They simply put the digital copies to shame and I am a fan of both mediums, however unless they were transferred properly with NO mucking about then they end up mutilating the original mastertape versions.

Well, I'm quite aware of what's out there unofficially about the band so yes there are some really horrid recordings. Mind you, I've sat through them. On the flip side, there are some well done recordings from the audience by enterprising souls who used good equipment.

Just get the soundboards first...

I think you'd have your work cut out for you LG. It's about as hard to convert a digital kid to the older stuff as it is vice versa, but I'd definitely give it a try.

I still have those links you sent me gcc. Thanks again. I'll be starting the additions to my LZ collection this January.

^^The biggest complaint with vinyl has always been the background noise, clicks pops etc., however the versions I would share with you have been ripped using absolutely top notch gear, easily the cost of a new car by this group of experts who are bound and determined to offer alternatives to our Classic 60's-80's albums that have been transferred poorly to digital. It's hard to put into words exactly the differences it's sort of like looking at a decent photograph and then seeing the same thing with your own eyes.

I still like my CD's, but for the old music I grew up with I have to be honest the vinyl simply rules, it's not even close.

I remember a friend of mine used to collect everything that Zeppelin did and he used to buy bootlegs for his wife for Christmas and when she opened them he would lock them away :)

^^I've never understood that,,,the idea of buying a piece of music and then storing it and never playing it...:dunno:

I guess if I knew how valuable old vinyl recordings have become these days the thing to do was buy two copies, one for enjoying and the other to save in mint condition.

I have tried to get into bootlegs and they just don't do diddly for me, but I am All About finding the best quality studio releases, no matter what I have to do to get my hands on them.:D
