Re: The OFFICIAL Led Zeppelin Thread

^^That might be part of it Cream'd, but I am sure they could pick enough Zeppelin classics that he could manage and perhaps a few female back-up singers to fill out the sound that no one would be disappointed. We all know a singers voice does suffer over the years or settle and prevent someone like Plant and even Halford from hitting and sustaining the high notes of their younger days.

I am in no way having a go at Robert Plant or Led Zeppelin,Led Zeppelin would be in my top 5 every time, perhaps what i should have said was that maybe Robert Plant doesn't think he could do the songs justice anymore, and would struggle to maintain the very high standards that he and his band mates achieved during their heyday.
I love Led Zeppelin,i have all their albums, dvds and several boots, but i don't know if i'd want to see them tour again.Part of me would love it and part of me says no just let it be,i think part of it's down to a fear i would have of them doing badly.

Re: The OFFICIAL Led Zeppelin Thread

^^There would be a build up unlike anything in contemporary rock music history if they did get together again for a farewell tour. Plant might not want to put up with the expectations in case as you say they couldn't pull it off. If I remember correctly, before John's death a lot of critics were already giving Zep some serious stick but when tragedy struck all that was forgotten and we prefer to remember the band at their zenith.

I don't know guys. I read that the reviews for the O2 arena show in '07 were great, and someone even complimented them on the fact that they sounded just as good as the old days.

Jimmy Page said years ago that his better days were long behind him as far
his guitar playing goes. I love Zeppelin and would hate to see them get back together and tour if they are not going to perform at a very high level .

If they did it would just put them into the same light as The Stones are today in many peoples eyes who say "I would just see them for the bragging rights not because I think they sound good live these days" To me that would be a real shame and something that they definitely should not do. Let them go out with their dignity still intact .

I just randomly got this song stuck in my head. At least it's a good song:

Re: The OFFICIAL Led Zeppelin Thread

I remember watching Plant and Page at Sheffield after they had released the "No Quarter" album. They played a cart load of Zep classics in odd arrangements and to be honest before the show I wondered if it would workout for them. The Show was incredible, probably the best gig I have ever seen. The Audience noise level after each song was unreal and the call for the encore was truely deafening. I think if they were to tour again as a reformed Led Zeppelin they would probably have to rearrange the old songs to suit both Robert's voice as it is now and Jimmy's playing as it is now. Jonesy would probably be able to pull it off at the old pace mind you. However if Robert's heart is really not in a reunion tour there is just no point pressing it IMO.

This one's also one of my faves from I. Fantastic work by Bonzo in this one:

How Many More Times

I think their first album was Zep at their most "raw" and real. Maybe not the more original but they definitely had the skills even at that time to make a song their own.

It's that raw high energy that makes Zep I an all time favourite of mine. What a way to announce your arrival.
