Re: The Official KISS Thread!

A set of KISS action figures was produced in the nineties by McFarlane Toys. Todd McFarlane made a name for himself drawing Spider-Man for Marvel Comics, before co-founding Image Comics and creating the Spawn character. He created McFarlane Toys in 1994 which started off by issuing action figures of Spawn which were more detailed than any other action figures issued to that time. Action figures of the members of KISS plus sports celebrity figures soon followed.

McFarlane Toys has been the number one name in action figures for fifteen years now. Todd McFarlane's success in these ventures enabled him to buy a part interest in the Edmonton Oilers plus Sammy Sosa's 33rd, 61st and 66th and Mark McGwire's 1st, 63rd, 67th, 68th, 69th and 70th home run balls from their record breaking season. Todd paid US$3 million for McGwire's 70th home run ball which turned out to be a shoddy investment as he was later able to purchase Barry Bonds' record breaking 73rd home run ball for "only" $450,000.

KISS Appearance On German TV Wins Big Ratings - Mar. 1, 2010
According to a posting on KISS' official web site, the band's appearance on this past Saturday's (February 27) episode of the German talk show "Wetten, Dass..?" had the highest number of viewers on German television that night, beating both Olympic coverage and "German Superstar".

An article from the German newspaper Dortmund Ruhr Nachrichten regarding the show's ratings success can be viewed below (courtesy of KissOnline.com).

As previously reported, KISS' new album, "Sonic Boom", will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl in five colors — purple, red, green, blue and black. The LP will be packaged in a full-color gatefold jacket and it iwll include lyrics on the inner sleeve and an exclusive 22" x 33" color poster.

"Sonic Boom" entered The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 2. This marked the band's highest-charting LP ever.

KISS has notched eight Top 10 albums, according to Billboard.com. Its previous highest-charting set was 1998's "Psycho Circus", which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 110,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group's other high-charting sets include 1975's "Alive!" (No. 9), 1977's "Love Gun" (No. 4) and 1992's "Revenge" (No. 6).

Video footage of KISS performing the songs "Say Yeah" and "I Was Made For Lovin' You" on "Wetten, Dass..?" can be viewed below.

Re: The Official KISS Thread!

Continuing on with my short reviews of the 80's Kiss albums....

* Animalize (1984)

f38315ghibz.jpg

Not as good as the previous couple of albums, but still a pretty solid effort. Bad thing was suddenly Kiss went from leather wearing badasses (as on the Lick It Up cover) to dressing like goofy hairband guys. Gene had been in a couple of movies and had short hair, so he was wearing a wig for the entire tour and it looked bad. Plus they all were wearing pieces of "animal skins" as part of the wardrobe and it was pretty wonky, however I guess it could be expected due to the album name and cover art. The wardrobe didn't take anything away from the music on the tour. They still whooped ass in concert, as always.

Lineup changes: Vinnie Vincent was replaced by Mark St. John. Unfortunately for Mark, his tenure was very shortlived due to supposedly having some personality conflicts with the other members of the band, as well as developing Reiter's Syndrome (arthritis), which impeded on his abilty to perform live. Mark was replaced by Bruce Kullick after just 2 and a half shows on the tour. However, that doesn't take away from his work on the album, which is pretty good. He wasn't as flashy his predecessor, Vinnie, but his guitar work was still solid. Mark only appeared in one video, which was the first single off the album, Heaven's On Fire.

On to the album. Heaven's on Fire was the huge commercial success on this album. Thrills In The Night also hit the MTV airwaves. Both good songs. To this day, Thrills is still one of my favorite Kiss songs. Other good tunes on this album would be: I've Had Enough (Into The Fire), Lonely Is The Hunter, Under The Gun, and While The City Sleeps. The album sold a ton, but more for the commercial success of Heaven's On Fire than anythings (I think).

If you like Kiss, this is still a very good album, but don't expect Creatures of the Night or Lick It Up. Good, but not that good.

My Rating: 8 out of 10 stars.

By the way, they did release a video of the Animalize Tour. Very good and any die-hard Kiss fan should own this. I had it on VHS and wore it out. There are DVDs of this concert available on the internet, but I don't know if anything is an actual release, or if they are all illegal distribution copies.

Paul Stanley with the Champ!! :box:

By THOMAS DIERENGA
Translated for KISSONLINE

The gentlemen are a little older. Since 1974 they have sold approximately 80 million records.

They are called The Demon, The Starchild, The Spaceman and The Cat. They are known under the band name KISS. And their stage show is as addicting as crack ...

Just like Vladimir Klitschko (33.) KISS gave him an order: Rock "Fast Eddie" out!

The boxing world champion met the hard rockers at "Wetten, dass ..?" in Erfurt.

Guitarist Paul Stanley and bass player Gene Simmons (with the long tongue) identified themselves as Klitschko fans since the last time the double Champs visited the United States.

Stanley handed Klitschko his battered Washburn guitar, stating: "Do the same with Eddie Chambers!"

"Fast" Eddie Chambers won the World Cup in Hamburg, fighting with a win over Universum fighter Carl Froch. Now, the AMI calls Klitschko on March 20 in the Dusseldorf Arena(live, RTL.)
