Re: The Official KISS Thread!

They both have their fair share of talent. In fact the first version of KISS "Wicked Lester" didn't even have Peter or Ace and utilized woodwind instruments...keys...a more jazzy feel...

KISS was developed and made into a hard rock type of act on purpose at the hands of Gene and paul.

As far as Gene getting more attention?? He's into all the merchandising, hype, keeping it a business, that sort of things. The fans aren't always happy with his attitude as he used to be about the music and art at one point many moons ago.

But he's keeping KISS afloat so that's a good thing. The other members don't always share his attitude however.

It's unfortunate...because Gene is a real talent and could shine more so in that department again and Paul whipped him into shape on the last studio album that Paul produced and wouldn't let Gene cut any corners.

Made him focus. :heheh:

Here is an out take from an interview where Paul wasn't in the mood for Gene hype...get's Gene a little angry as he calls him out on exagerrated groupie stories..and wants to talk about the music more.

Paul seemed irritated with Gene about something from the get go.

Re: The Official KISS Thread!

While I have come to respect and enjoy Kiss now more than ever before due to MP's influence(and other people here as well), and I give Gene kudos for his business acumen in keeping the Kiss brand alive...I draw the line with him on his reality show. I am not a fan and will never be of that kind of BS, and I am glad Paul can at least keep Gene grounded when he gets carried away with his hyperbole.

I have learned more about Kiss in the few weeks you have been posting in here than the previous 30 years MP, well done.

Thanks LG!!!

For the record one of the only things I DON'T like is Family Jewels...and the only DVD orientated KISS product I refused to add to the stash. I'd never watch it.

There's a reason Paul has never been on it either and he was asked.

I've never seen that video before. That's pretty cool watching Paul slam Gene like that. :heheh:

Couple of things about that interview. First the guy doing the interview asked some really stupid questions. Second, I don't know if Paul was pissed about Gene getting pissed at him, but he didn't directly answer some of those questions.. like "who were your biggest influences". He went on more about people that should be considered influences to everyone, rather than being specific to himself or to the band. He did that a few times with general answers more than specific answers.

Still, cool. Thanks for that vid.

I respect that Bruce wasn't happy about the whole Unplugged thing but went along with it, in which it ended up being his last concert with the band. Eric also said the same thing.

From what I read, both Bruce and Eric were kept on the "payroll" for at least a year after the reunion shows started before actually being handed their pink slips. I guess from the business point of view, they were somewhat treated fairly on that.

Re: The Official KISS Thread!

Alright, I loved the majority of what KISS put out in the 80's, but they did have some stuff that made me go :wtf:

A while back, I wrote up some reviews of the albums from the 80's. May as well share that stuff here. 4 of the first 5 albums are fantastic. Here are my thoughts on the first two:

------------------------------------------------------------------

* Unmasked (1980)

d29971orc50.jpg

Far and away their worst album, ever. If I never heard another song
on it, my life would be no less for it. I don't need to go any further
because my rating describes it all. The only redeeming point to this
album was the cover art. I know that some people have said this
song or that song are ok and some even think there are good songs
on here. For me, this is far and away the least played Kiss album in
my catalogue (and I have it all)

My Rating: 1 out of 10 stars.

---------------------------------------------

* Music from The Elder (1981)

f78286rzety.jpg

Their most underrated, under appreciated underplayed album. Yes,
it's a concept album and doesn't fit the Kiss "mold" that we grew
accustomed to in the 70's, but it's a cool album. Ace's solo on
Dark Light
F**king rocks. The rest of that song is kind of average,
lyrically and musically, but the solo makes it all worth while!

The whole album is a much darker album than they had ever done
before. Only You and Under the Rose are both great tunes, as
well as the last track, I. Another song, a ballad by Gene, A World
Without Heroes
did get a little bit of play on MTV back in the day
and is also a good tune, but shows a side of Gene's songwriting
that we never really saw before.

Honestly, I have probably played this album as many times as I did
COTN, LIT and Animalize. It's too bad they got such a bad rap for
this album. It's far far better than most realize. All in all, I don't
think that there's a bad track on here and I do realize I'm in the
minority on that opinion.

My Rating: 8.0 out of 10 stars.
