That Band of gypsies album with the 'Dolls cover' on Polydor records was the second Hendrix vinyl album that i ever bought (first being Live at the Isle of Wight album on polydor records) in 1980.

The Dolls cover is a very cool cover much more interesting then the picture of Hendrix playing his guitar on the US version. I always wondered why the Hendrix doll on the back cover held his guitar 'the wrong way around' playing it in the right-hand style rather then the way Hendrix would usually play his guitar as a LEFT-HANDED guitar player??.

The Hendrix doll looked very much like him a very good likeness indeed.

You may or may not know that PALI GAP was a segment of music lifted from a jam that begun straight after the end when DOLLY DAGGER fell apart. This 'instrumental' piece of music was given the name PALI GAP by Jimi's last manager Mike Jeffries in 1971 and was included as part of the 1971 RAINBOW BRIDGE soundtrack because he (Jeffries) thought that it had an 'Hawaiian feel' to it, of course Jimi wouldn't have known this piece of music as being called PALI GAP when he recorded it and at the time of his death in Sept '70.

According to the late Randy California he claims that Jimi showed him how to play LOOK OVER YONDER (he may have even claimed that he co-wrote it with Jimi i can't recall at the time of posting this?) back around early 1966 when the 15 year old Randy California was playing with Jimi in jimi's own band called Jimmy James & the blue flames in New York City before he was 'discovered' by Chas Chandler and was brought over to England in Sept '66.

Yeah agreed DOLLY DAGGER is a great song a funky mid-paced rock number, the opening guitar chords were lifted from a Billy Cox bass riff of London's BIG BEN clock!!. These opening guitar chords were lifted whole sale by the ALICE COOPER (band) and used on there hit song ELECTED!!.

Yes agreed again ROOMFULL OF MIRRORS is a great Hendrix song the live version performed at the Royal Albert Hall in Feb '69 was 'incomplete' Jimi had only the first verse written thats why it descends into a jam!.

Yup I heard it!! Pretty wild!!! :heheh:

I'm guessin' Alice (The Band) was tippin' the 'ol hat to Jimi there.

Alice himself was influenced by all those classics. Jimi, Doors, Stones ect.

Yeah pretty cool eh METALPRIEST?.

Yeah i've never read anyone in any rock magazines or books making the same observation that Alice Cooper's ELECTED having the same 'guitar intro' as Jimi's DOLLY DAGGER.

Don't forget Jimi's DOLLY DAGGER came first!. :grinthumb
