Re: The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Sorry I am so slow responding Groovy, just saw this:

For the completeist, Hornet's Nest is an interesting historical audio piece.

It is basically Jimi (called Jimmy here) backing up Curtis Knight and The Squires around 1965/1966.

He is also afforded a few instrumentals, Hornet's Nest (AKA: Kato's Special) being a stand out.

Hornet's Nest sounds kind of like The Flight Of The Bumble-Bee in parts, and it should be noted that in a lot of his later live material, you can hear Jimi working it into some of his guitar fills.

The studio tracks have a complicated history.
See the following link for more information...

For first time listeners, I would suggest you go in with an open mind, as this is Jimi in his formative stages. The reward comes in hearing what will become an incredible guitarist once given his chance.

I'll try to post some videos later in the day, as the computer I am currently on has filtered out Youtube. :mad

Re: The Jimi Hendrix Experience

^ Thanks for posting all that info and video, Phil B.

and I thought I almost had everything recorded by Hendrix.

Well, I knew I had a lot...but not that...

just goes to show, there's always more!

''Knock Yourself Out'' is pretty wild...

and ''Hornet's Nest'' is insane!

Very cool stuff....thanks again for that post :grinthumb

I have a picture disc of that Jimi/Jim Morrison collaboration. An old girlfriend bought it in England and brought it back for me.

Re: The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Here is a strange compilation box set I picked up at a yard sale. Star Potrait : Jimi Hendrix. Two albums, made in Germany.

The albums are in nice shape, but it was missing the booklet that apparently came with it...

Re: The Jimi Hendrix Experience

I have a few copies of The Band of Gypsies (aka Band of Gypsys/aka Band of Gipsies) album. This Track records release has the wierd spelling...I always thought it was interesting that on the cover they spell it Gypsys, but on the actual record, it's Gipsies.

I don't have the picture disc, but I have this wierd cover art one. It was put out by an English label called Red Lightning.
