I've always thought Ian Andersons voice is superb , anyone else like his unique raspy character filled voice ?

and he did start out wanting to be a lead guitarist , but Hendrix put a stop to that ! :)
I think his flute playing is second to none , a really all round talented and hard working wonder.

^^I remember him talking about that Cyggy...he's good on the acoustic guitar, his flute well he is the standard against which I rate all other rock flautists.

But when it came to electric guitar, he considers himself "rubbish"...:heheh:

We have a great group of Tull fanatics in here as well.:cheers2

time for some songs from the wood ........... Jack in the Green a great tune and wondrous lyrics ;

"Jack-In-The-Green"

Have you seen Jack-In-The-Green?
With his long tail hanging down.
He sits quietly under every tree ---
in the folds of his velvet gown.
He drinks from the empty acorn cup
the dew that dawn sweetly bestows.
And taps his cane upon the ground ---
signals the snowdrops it's time to grow.

It's no fun being Jack-In-The-Green ---
no place to dance, no time for song.
He wears the colours of the summer soldier ---
carries the green flag all the winter long.

Jack, do you never sleep ---
does the green still run deep in your heart?
Or will these changing times,
motorways, powerlines,
keep us apart?
Well, I don't think so ---
I saw some grass growing through the pavements today.

The rowan, the oak and the holly tree
are the charges left for you to groom.
Each blade of grass whispers Jack-In-The-Green.
Oh Jack, please help me through my winter's night.
And we are the berries on the holly tree.
Oh, the mistlethrush is coming.
Jack, put out the light.

++ cool LG ... Have you a copy of their lyrics book ? I bought it a while back . It matches the cigar box set (now rare) , I consider Tull Floyd and Rush to have the best lyrics in Rock (Queen had some great lyrics too) the reason I bought the TULL Lyric book was the power of the lyrics .

I've always considered Ian one of the true "songsmiths" in contemporary music, but no Cyggy I don't have a lyric book...now that you mention it I should see if I can get one. I miss my old gatefold/vinyl albums, most of those had lyrics printed inside or on the sleeve itself.

here's what it looks like , don't bother getting it from the UK if you reside in the UK (it's gone up five fold in price since I bought it) here's a US link

Amazon.com: Jethro Tull Complete Lyrics (9780863599774): Karl Schramm, Gerard J. Burns: Books

did you get the cigar box set ? I waited about three years for the right price , speaking of which , I paid something like £25 for Stormwatch on CD it became very scarce a few years back .

No I don't have the Cigar Box set...I am more interested in getting a few old Tull albums on vinyl again, I have the CD's but want to replace my favorites on vinyl if I can.

Thanks for the link/info, I'll look and see what's available over here.:hab:

I lost most of my vinyl in a fire years ago Cyggy, and there are about 5 albums I want on vinyl again. Yes I saw the new Aqualung deluxe version, I do have the Classic 200 gram vinyl of that one in the library...but would love to get the MFSL edition, saw a couple on e-bay but they wanted over $600.00 so I passed.
