Hello everyone! I am brand new here and this is my very first post. I figured there would be no better way to make my first post than to do it on one of my all time favorites - Jackson Browne. I used the search function and did not see a thread on him already (surprisingly!).
I suppose this could have been put into the 60's category, as he first started his career in 1966, but he didn't really hit his stride until the 70's with his self-titled album.
I recently saw Jackson perform at the Paramount Theater in Denver, CO. and was absolutely stunned to hear how great he still is after nearly 50 years of singing. His voice was a tiny bit raspy, but man he sounded just as good as ever and he hit every note.
His concerts are very unique, as they are more of an experience than a concert. If I had to put it into words, I would say it's kind of like hanging out with your cool grandfather who has experienced all kinds of things in his life, and now you just want him to let you in and tell you everything.
He shares stories of his past, things that have influenced him and his songs, and really makes you feel like he genuinely loves what he does and hasn't become jaded by being in the limelight. He is one of those performers who you can tell would still be doing this same thing even if he wasn't getting paid for it.
He comes across as an extremely soulful, genuine, passionate artist who weaves stories through his lyrics that are both celebrations of life and poignant reminders of some of the tougher times.
Throughout his life Jackson has been through an immense amount of joy, pain, suffering, and just about any other emotion you can name. The fact that he used these experiences and created songs out of them is a true testament to his beautiful soul.
One of my favorite things about Jackson is that during his shows, he doesn't seem like he is some closed off celebrity who thinks he is better than everyone else. He wants the audience to join him in the journey that is his music, and he leaves his heart out there on the stage. Simply put... He has fun.
He also doesn't stick to a strict set list, and will play what the audience wants to hear. Any Jackson Browne concert wouldn't be complete without the many of his fans who yell out their favorite songs. His set list morphs with the crowd's requests, and that is another reason why all of his shows are a unique experience.
