If Jimi was still around in 2025 he would be regarded by everyone especially in the British, European, Japanese & American music business as ROCK ROYALTY in the same league as sir Paul McCartney, sir Elton John & sir Mick Jagger.

Jimi Hendrix rock guitarist, rock god and icon for a whole generation of hippies during the late 1960s and the first half of the 1970s died 55 years ago today on September 18th 1970 in London's Notting Hill area aged just 27

That is what the late jazz record producer Alan Douglas has said and that is what is also (sort) of stated on the back of the Nine To The Universe vinyl album cover released in 1980 that Jimi was moving towards a more 'jazz fusion' kind of thing on the evidence of some sessions of 'jams' that were recorded around April/May 1969 with Alan Douglas producing along with Jimi and Buddy Miles on drums on three of the 'jams' on the album along with 'jazzers' like Larry Young on keyboards on one track (Young/Hendrix) and the Miles Davis bass player the british guy Dave Holland appearing on another one of the five tracks on the album. Alan Douglas 'produced' Jimi in the studio later in 1969 after Woodstock and prior to the Band of Gypsies 'trip' but back to the Nine To The Universe album if you can track this vinyl album down cos is was never released on cd except possibly in Japan(?) it's actually a really good listening experience!. I actually found a 'bootleg' recording of these 'jams' a year ago in London from which the Nine To The Universe vinyl album comes from in it's entirety and it's a lot of a longer 'running time' that the Nine To The Universe vinyl album is or was cos some 'editing' was done to it to bring the 'running time' down to fit onto a 40-minte vinyl album but leaving that aside it's a really good bootleg recording with 'good' sound quality.
When it comes to 'Jimi and jazz' the BIG thing everyone wanted was the proposed session that nearly took place (but didn't) between Miles Davis & Jimi but nothing recording wise has ever appeared between these two giants of music over the last 55+ years although both men did get together several times later on during 1969 to discuss music and Miles even attended Jimi's funeral in Seattle along with others in October of 1970.
I bought the original Nine To The Universe vinyl album released on Polydor records in the UK back in 1980 when it came out although sadly I sold it along with a lot of other records many years which I regret doing.

He might have laid down his guitar and picked up a paintbrush...a fair few musicians try their hand at art in their later years.

Miles Davis. There is a fascinating horn appearance on the 'Shokan' bootleg, 'Jimi's March' I think? No-one seems to have identified the horn-player.
Miles was very impressed when John McLaughlin took him to see Jimi's performance at Woodstock, but John never asked Miles what exactly Miles was getting so into - he could obviously hear 'jazz potential' in what Jimi was doing (of course Jimi was already playing Wes Montgomery style licks by this stage), I heard that Miles went on to experiment with a wah-wah pedal [somehow] for his trumpet?
Thank goodness Jimi always insisted on 'leave the tape running' for so many of his studio sessions. Dear old Chas Chandler was totally against this practice - & what a great producer he was - but if the budget studio-time approach had been the norm, we would have lost a lot of good music, I feel
