Iced Earth is an American heavy metal band from Tampa, Florida that combines influences from thrash metal, power metal, progressive metal, opera, speed metal and NWOBHM (new wave of brittish heavy metal).
Iced Earth has been known to have a volatile and often changing line-up. Founding member, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer being the only original member who has remained, handling nearly all of the songwriting and leading the band. Current vocalist Matt Barlow and former lead guitarist Randall Shawver are the next longest-tenured members, the only people besides Schaffer to have spent a full decade in the band. Shawver, the first lead guitarist to record with the band, joined in 1988 and remained until 1998. Barlow joined in 1994 and remained until 2003, when he was inspired by the September 11, 2001 attacks in the U.S. to leave the band and become a law enforcement officer. However, he returned to the group in late 2007, making his live return at the 2008 Chicago Powerfest. In 1999 Jon Schaffer teamed up with Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kürsch to form a side project called Demons & Wizards and have released two albums to date.
Both Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards are worth to look into And yes, I will make official topics about them soon.

If you trust my judgement, these are the albums you'd have to start with:
Alive in athens.
I normally never suggest a live recorded 'best of' album But this one just rules. Matt Barlow’s voice just shines throughout all the songs. He can be both very melodic and very sad ("Melancholy," "Watching Over Me"), demonic ("Dante’s Inferno") and everything in between. In my ears, this man can do no wrong. So take this album as a good one to start with. The music and recording quality are extremely high.

The Glorious Burden
It is a concept album, which explores various moments in American military history, such as the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolutionary War, and American Civil War. It also pays tribute to world events such as World War I, the World Trade Center attacks and the ravages of Attila the Hun.
The album's centerpiece is the trilogy entitled Gettysburg (1863). Each of the three songs represents one day in the Battle of Gettysburg, the largest battle ever conducted in the Western Hemisphere and considered the turning point in the American Civil War.
This album features the debut of lead singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens, formerly of Judas Priest. The album was first recorded with Matt Barlow on vocals, but band leader Jon Schaffer was not satisfied with his performance. His recordings were later on used as backing vocals for Owens singing.
Matt Barlow left the band at that point because of 9/11

The dark saga:
The Dark Saga tells the story of a man who sells his soul to the devil in order to return to his true love on Earth, but he soon discovers that she is married to his own best friend. He is left completely alone in the world, and although he has good inside, he is influenced by dark forces. Everything that he desires is denied, even his own death.
