SuperShane, Looks like you and I have something in common. Our love of Pink Floyd! They're my favorite band too. But that didnt come about until I was 14.
I remember hearing lots of 50's and 60's oldies when i was a little kid because my Dad would always have the radio on out in the garage.
I have an older brother and sister. Their tastes are super different. My brother was and still is a metalhead listening to DIO, Van Halen, Scorpions, Metallica, Megadeth all that stuff and my sister was more into Madonna, Journey, dance music, Fleetwood Mac, etc.
I grew up in the MTV era, the early eighties. I was 10 in 1987. So I watched a LOT of MTV, back when they played videos.
So guess I took a lttle bit from each of them and my dad because I still enjoy all that music as well as classic rock and prog.
As for the Floyd, I credit my brother with that: In 1990 MTV aired the Knebworth concert and he asked me to tape the Pink Floyd portion for him. I still have it too! I was blown away amazed at the music. I'd never heard such grandness before in music. Everything before that was just sappy bubble-gum pop crap to me. I quickly became obsessed and watched that video almost every day after school. I think my brother only ever saw it once! Now i'm a full blown Floyd freak!
As I've gotten older my tastes have grown too. I like a lot of jazz fusion, folk guitar and prog now. I'll listen to almost anything once but there are a lot of things I know that I dislike too, such as rap/hip hop, ska, punk, country and reggae.
