Grateful Dead * Scarlet Begonias * 8-08-1982 *
Alpine Valley Music Theatre * East Troy, Wisconsin

Here's a real nice version of ''Scarlet Begonias'' from the summer of '82.
Not a perfect version, but it's pretty rockin'.
Check out the nice jam at the end.

Do yourself a favor and TURN IT UP!

This version is really good. Jerry's voice could've been better, but anyway, awesome performance.

Re: Grateful Dead

If there's one band I always wondered why I never listened too, it would be the Grateful Dead. I guess I've been neglecting my inner deadhead.

Re: Grateful Dead

China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider

The Grateful Dead first performed "China Cat Sunflower" on January 22, 1968 (although in concert recordings are noted from January 17, 1968 at the Carousel Ballroom in San Fransisco, CA), and played the song well over 500 times in concert. During the first year after its introduction into the band's set list, the song was played by itself or often in the middle of an extended jam between the songs "Dark Star" and "The Eleven" - a position more familiarly (to Deadheads) filled by "St. Stephen".

In late 1969 the Grateful Dead began segueing "China Cat Sunflower" into "I Know You Rider" during live performances. Over the next 26 years they would pair these songs together over 500 times, most often as a second set opener. Only twice during this extended period was "China Cat Sunflower" played without this pairing. (Wikipedia)

Enjoy!

Re: Grateful Dead

Yeaah, China Cat Sunflower is my favorite Grateful Dead song, and I love how they totally jam out of song on live concerts and then got back in main theme completely groovin' around!

Re: Grateful Dead

I'm not a huge fan, but what I have really listened to I have enjoyed a bunch. A good buddy got me into them and others :heheh:. Basically sat me down and played a bunch of tunes that he would recommend and that he thought I would enjoy....I love the Europe 72 and the double "what a long strange trip its been". They have so much out there, but I can name at least 30 songs that I absolute love...especially right now with the beautiful weather here in Ontario,Canada !!

Cheers !!
