I'm going to go against the grain here and give Billy Joel some love. The Stranger is an awesome album, love almost every song on it.
The reason that I'll give Billy my vote is this... Yellow Brick Road is also a hell of an album, but it's about 8 songs too long. Had that album only been the best of the four sides, it'd be tough to beat. When you add in all of the less-than-average filler, it brings the rest of the album down, as a whole.
It's similar to how I feel about The Beatles (the White Album). Two sides worthy of all of the praise that it usually gets, and two sides worth of less than average filler.
