When bands go through lineup changes, they often lose the chemistry that made them so beloved in the first place. But, according to Gene Simmons, Kiss is not one of those bands. In a new interview, he praised the contributions of guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer.

“I want to go on record,” he told Revolver (via Blabbermouth). “Eric and Tommy have revitalized the band, made Paul [Stanley] and myself realize what lucky bastards we are to be in Kiss and to have each other. And this should have been the lineup of Kiss from the beginning.”

Simmons believes that, as important as Ace Frehley and Peter Criss were in the band’s early days, enough time has passed since their departures that it’s not even an issue with so many of their fans.

“When you have 3-year-old and 5-year-old fans showing up to our concerts — or even 30-year-old fans,” he continued. “They don’t know about Ace and Peter. I mean, next year is going to be our 40th year. We’ve been touring longer than most of the people who come see us live have been alive. Who’s Ace and Peter?”

OKAY I know 70's Guy MAY defend this, and I just wanna point out that I LOVE Eric and Tommy. They are good for the band and I love the last two albums.

However not only to say that Eric and Tommy should have been the band from the beginning (which then would NOT be the KISS that we know and love today) but that kids and 30 somethings that go to shows do not know who Ace and Peter are.

OK, tell that to my 9 year old who just told me today that Ace and Peter are the best. NOT because his dad is a KISS fan either. He catches it all by himself, when he hears an Ace Frehley solo or Peter's voice.

Gene...the old band may have had it's ups and downs but it had wayyy more chemisrty. Show some respect !

Don't forget to click the source link and vote in the poll for best drummer and guitar player in KISS. No matter who you vote for the results will blow Gene's theory out of the water when you hit submit.

But do you see my point 7G?? It wouldn't be KISS if that were the case..may have make up, may not have....different name....music would be different...ya know??

They really need to get over the bashing of Ace and Peter. I mean it is what it is and I love Monster, but it starts to come across as if they are trying to shove something in Ace and Peter's face.

Don't know about Peter but I don't see Ace really giving a crap.

The band is HOT now, so no denying that, but the chemistry was much better before. The Beatles could have gotten John Bonham and we all know that it just wouldn't be the Beatles.

Gene sure does like to keep count of things, doesn't he?

X amount of years.
X amount of albums.
X amount of women.
X amount of tours.

And anyway, what's he supposed to say? The original KISS is the best lineup. What we have now doesn't have the chemistry or the appeal of what we had when we were 4 years old.

Heck, he might even believe the current lineup is the best.

No one knows what he truly thinks, because Gene says what's best for Gene at any given moment.

So Gene has basically said piss on everybody that has ever been in KISS but Paul, Tommy, Eric S. and himself. That sounds about like him.
