I'll go with Heart.

Surprized Pat Benatar hasn't been mentioned.

I vote for Heart as well. They've always been a very special band for me because their first album was all over the radio the summer that I first dated the girl who became my wife (of now almost 29 years). They've really done some fine music over the years.

Janis Joplin with Big Brother & The Holding Company
might not be the "best", but definitely very influential to the later generations of female rockers.

Plenty of good ones, but I have to agree with the OP even though this thread is pretty old. Judging talent is a matter of personal opinion of course, but in my world there is Ann Wilson, then everyone else.

Hole. I'm probably one of the few here that still likes Courtney Love.

Some others: Heart, The Pretenders, The Bangles, Mazzy Star, and Blondie.

Fleetwood Mac in the Stevie Nicks days, her voice was so rich yet so fragile. Most definitely an inspiration to me.
On the other side of that, I'd have to agree with overkill86 on Hole as well. Junkie or not that girl has got
talent! Great actress too.
