I think I'll go for the Bernie Leadon Eagles composition Journey of the Sorcerer, which later became the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy theme:

For those who haven't heard this before, it's pretty unique I think - a kind of banjo-led progressive bluegrass instrumental which I reckon could chart either a journey across the desert or across space! I think this is worth hearing even if you're not an Eagles fan as it's very different from anything else they did in the 1970s.
