Well this is pretty simple for me. depending on what mood I'm in, there are two songs vying for the No. 1 spot.
Castells -I Do (Brian Wilson produced and wrote it)
Beach Boys- Wouldn't it be nice

I cannot name one solitary track so heres a list of 10 from the 1960s which immediately come to mind:

Tin Soldier - Small Faces
Waterloo Sunset - Kinks
Whiter Shade Of Pale - Procol Harum
Go Now - Moody Blues
Across The Universe - Beatles
Come Tomorrow - Manfred Mann
Fortunate Son - CCR
Helter Skelter - Beatles
If I Can Dream - Elvis Presley
Substitute - The Who

damn, just realised I didn't put any Stax/Motown/Country/Folk in the list!

I love iconic 60's songs like "Wild Thing", "Summer In The City" and "Pushin' Too Hard" but the number one 60's song to me is... "Purple Haze". Because when you hear that song, you think of Jimi, but you also think of the summer of love, the San Francisco bands, and 60's music in general. Sort of like "Stairway To Heaven" was (and may still be) the 70's perennial #1 song. Songs like that represent an era.

The 60's music is something very special and means a lot to me in all it's glory. It was a bit easier to dig the latest new and popular stuff despite it was hard to get them as soon as they was released because we had to wait for the flaming bananaboat to come in. The 60's music reminds me of good looking girls, milkshake bars, some weird flower power clothing:oyea: and in a age of 15 sneaking in at the backdoor to the local discothèque and have a a beer or two and this and that. Well, before I'm writing a whole flaming novel, a tiny list of some corny hits:

Hey Jude/The Beatles
All My Loving/The Beatles
Twist And Shout/The Beatles
Tell Me (You'r comming Back) /The Rolling Stones
She's A Rainbow/The Rolling Stones
(I Can't Get No)Satisfaction/The Rolling Stones
As Tears Go By/The Rolling Stones
Hey Joe/Jimi Hendrix
Purple Haze/Jimi Hendrix
Fortunate Son/Credence Clearwater Revival
Bad Moon Rising/Credence Clearwater Revival
World/Bee Gees
Spicks And Specks/Bee Gees
Massachusetts/Bee Gees
Here Comes The Night/Them
How Long Baby/Them
You'll Never Walk Alone/Gerry and The Pacemakers
Ferry Cross The Mersey/Gerry and The Pacemakers
One Night Of Sin/Elvis Presley (1957)
Love Me Tender/Elvis Presley
Last Night In Soho/Dave,Dee,Dozy,Mick & Tich
Don Juan/Dave,Dee,Dozy,Mick & Tich
No Milk Today/Herman's Hermits
Atlantis/Donovan
Baby Come Back/The Equals
Glad All Over/Dave Clark Five
I'm A Believer/The Monkees

Love this tune. The "Little Green Bag" that many of us thought of as a "weed bag" was actually written as greenback (as in money). They changed the title because the misinterpretation was better... or at least more "cool" for the period.

I'd have to go with songs that capture the spirit of the times.

For What It's Worth--Buffalo Springfield.
Ohio-CSNY
We Can Be Together - Jefferson Airplane. I love the part that says "We are forces of chaos and anarchy. Everything they say we are we are. And we are very Proud of ourselves".

The golden age of terrorism - CNN.com

People forget that people were seriously thinking of Revolution. For real.
It was no offhand thing that the Beatles did Revolution. The number of revolutionary groups that were active is forgotten. Bombings and stuff. For real. The level of terrorism in the US hit an all time high in the 70's. And it was launched in the 60's.
