I feel like it's a basic tenet of rock music to go from loud to soft and back again. If you only ever play soft... you may be verging on folk or pop. If you only play loud... you may be verging on metal or punk. I wish I could show you a bunch of crazy ass artists that go from bubblegum pop to harsh noise, or lite jazz to gangsta rap, or classical piano to breakcore. I mean, I could post you MY (own) stuff but that's been there, done that. All I got fer ya is rock n roll...

Oh definitely, it sets a dramatic picture for sure! Actually hard/soft is a style Genesis mastered in many of their epics! Like Supper's Ready, there's the grace of Lover's Leap and the eerie ambiance of How Dare I Be So Beautiful? contrasting with the aggression of Ikhnaton And Itsacon And Their Band Of Merry Men and the chaos of Apocalypse in 9/8. Cinema Show, you've got the acoustic melodic intro mixed with the epic instrumental section, and "There is in fact more earth than sea" belted out. It even shone through to the later albums too, Mad Man Moon is a good example, as well as Blood On The Rooftops :grinthumb

Oh this is a great one for me. The artists that I love who don't make use of dynamics are quite few in numbers.

Here a couple few...
