Re: dEUS

Not bad Julez! They have a fair variety of sounds. After hearing their crazy vocals it was surprising to hear the song Instant Street! If I was to pick a fave song it would be Suds & Soda! Really cool intro and I love the vocal quality of it from rough and abrasive to smoothly sung choruses! Nice to see you getting around to displaying your Belgium bands Julez! Looking forward to more! :grinthumb

Re: dEUS

^ ahh great Soots, I'm glad you like them!! :)

I know, Suds n soda is really a hit! It used to be all over the radio in Belgium. I love the intro too, the violin makes it special.
Their early video clips are a real treat to dEUS fans. Some of them are made out of footage from homevideos, so we get a little insight on how they really are, I love it :D
They're made by Tom Barman, the frontman, who attended film school, and he has directed one movie so far, it's called Any Way The Wind Blows, if you ever get a chance to see it, it's good, great soundtrack of course, pretty funny as well.

Some songs, you have to listen to them more to really appreciate them. But they can really grow on you!

This was another hit, very tuneful:

This one s for you Soots, I think you might like this, it's a bit like Suds n soda, ending in a chaos of noise as well:

I think this is excellent, and I really like the lyrics:

If you don't get what you want
You scream and you shout
I'm not the only one who said it
If you don't get it
You gotta let it out
If you don't get what you need
You're picking on me
I'm tired of giving in
On every single whim
You gotta let me be
If you don't get what you want
If you don't get what you need
If you don't get what you ask for
You gotta let me be
You're lying on my bed
you light a sigarette
Is this some kinda joke
I asked you not to smoke
You laugh at me instead
Cause you're the kinda girl
I would offer you the world
You'll mess it up for fun
Beg for another one
A second and a third
If you don't get what you want
If you don't get what you need
If you don't get what you ask for
You gotta let me be
If you don't get what you want
You push and you shove
If you set your mind on something
I know that something
Will never be enough
Cause i'm just a man
It ain't hard to understand
I like to give a lot
To a woman that is not
Only taking what she can
If I don't get what I want
If I don't get what I need
If I don't get what I ask for
I just let it be
That's the difference
between you and me
Anyway you want me
honey if you need me
You gotta stop and sweat me
Oh I can't believe it
I'm telling you one last time
I'm gonna give you what you want, babe...

I was wondering... Can you hear he's not a native English speaker, is that very obvious?

Re: dEUS

To answer your question Julez I don't think it's obvious because the vocals are unique anyway so it sets them apart in general. I like this batch of songs even better and your recommendation was spot on. I'm usually a ballad guy but not with these guys. With the flair that these guys have I lean towards their rockier stuff! :D

Re: dEUS

Aight, it's been a while I posted here....

On the 17th of May Tom Barman sent this message to his fans:

Hi Everyone, Barman checking in....

Just to tell you we've been hibernating in our studio in Antwerp, working on an album that will hopefully be so good it'll make your earflaps wiggle, your legs jerk in perfect unison and your heart feel like the love-trampoline it's always been! We start recording this summer, to expect a release early next year.

Meanwhile, some summerdates will be announced soon, so look out for that too.

On a more serious note, I would like to apologize to our Italian fans for the use of Everybody's Weird in a Toyota-commercial. Turns out those cars didn't have any brakes. Ouch! Nobody ever tells us anything...

Ciao + talk soon!

Tom and the guys

I don't know what the deal is with the toyota commercial...The new album sounds promising alright! They're performing in Belgium on the 7th of August, at a festival where Tom Mcrae is also performing, not bad ehh? so I'm gonna make sure I've got tickets for that.

And here's an ode to my America-trip:

She had this thing about allistair crawlin', it was like a fascination
She had this thing about allistair crawlin', it was like a fascination

I don't mean to be rude

Hey, I wanna
I wanna testify hey
I wanna

Burton in a salad bar sweet like a candy bar
No more sugar for a clean genius in quarantine
I mean where's the love, where's the hate
What's a smiling face and a sunburned prostate for a man that great

Richard there, richard here, richard quoting shakespeare
Back and forth and back again, to be or not to be the man.
Lizzy's getting dizzy, she should've known it from the start
Being rich is just a lifestyle being alive is just a part
That's what makes a kilo heavier than a gram, mam
That's what makes a kilo heavier than a gram, mam

I don't mean to be rude
Great american nude

I got a gift from my mother, she got it for a dime
She got it from someone and I also don't mind
But it's just a phase, when I get graced
Can't tell the picture from a sound
I thought we would just call here:
Great american brown, great american brown

Fool smart, move fashion and the crowning on a brown man
Black is butter count the shaky hands
You see, I got it from my mother, she got it for a pop
Get the gallery connected, get the clientele to form
Suck a demon for a duck

I didn't mean to be rude, great american nude
Hey, I didn't mean to be rude, great american nude

Walk that walk, I'm looking for my pop

Burton in a salad bar sweet like a candy bar
No more sugar for a clean genius in quarantine
I mean where's the love, where's the hate
What's a smiling face and a sunburned prostate for a man that great

Great american nude, take american express
Walk that walk, walk that walk

That's what makes a kilo heavier than a gram, mam
That's what makes a kilo heavier than a gram, mam
That's what makes a kilo heavier than a gram, mam
That's what does it

Motif, motif, motif, motif, motif, motif
Motif, motif, motif

Great american nude, great american nude
Great american nude, great american nude

I wanna testify

Re: dEUS

dEUS has got a new album out, "following sea" which I'm going to listen to riiiight now!

Here's a single, I'm listening to it for the first time myself:)

Hmm, can't say I'm fond of that song after a first listen. Hopefully the other songs on the album are better!

After a second listen: god I hate that song "quatre mains"!

There are around 3 good songs on the new album. I don't like it. The whole thing just sounds like they tried too hard. Rumor goes that these were actually the songs that didn't make Keep you close, which I think is a good album. I was talking to a friend earlier who actually likes this album and didn't like Keep you Close and he said he liked it because it resembled the stuff they were making in the 90s. It probably sounds more than the stuff they made in the 90s than their last two albums but it's still not even close. Their first albums were exciting & made you want to listen to them over and over again. I have to say the new album does have some interesting lyrics, and your attention is drawn to them, I think because there are bits in between the singing bits where Tom Barman is talking.

I did appreciate keep you close better & here are some songs from that album:

I'm going to post the good stuff from Following Sea once it makes youtube. :grinthumb
