despite his former bandmates saying otherwise

Former Styx vocalist DeYoung spoke to Rolling Stone recently about the possibility of a reunion with the band he helped form in 1970, and he says that he would be more than open to the idea.

When asked whether he would go back to the band he said: "What I've said since day one is the same thing I say today. It hasn't changed... I gave that band my life."

The singer's proclamations are most certainly at odds with fellow founding member Tommy Shaw who recently told Rolling Stone: "I don't think [a reunion] is realistic. We tried it in 1996 and we realized what was true in 1983 was only more true in 1996. We'd just gone our separate ways. Rather than having a positive effect on each other, we have a very negative effect on each other. You only live once and you should be happy."

And when asked whether there was any chance at all for a reunion he said "We already did it. In retrospect, we weren't even happy working with each other in our heyday. We're just different people with different desires and different vision of how things should be. God, it was such an unhappy place. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. We're crazy, but we're not insane."

When Rolling Stone quoted Shaw to DeYoung he said

"I don't know what he's talking about. Look, nobody is a bigger fan of Tommy Shaw than me. The day I met him in 1975 I knew he was going to be a great guitar player, performer and songwriter. I was his biggest fan, and I'm Styx's number one fan. Now am I going to sit here and tell you that it was a bed of roses? Bite me, Andy (Greene, RS journo). Bite me. Because I want you to walk out of that little office of yours and talk to three or four of our colleagues and see how much you guys agree on."

Dennis DeYoung was part of Styx a long time before Tommy Shaw arrived. But there is no doubt that Styx was at it's very best with Dennis, James, The Panozzo brothers and Tommy Shaw.

Shaw has kept Styx alive and touring, I don't know if JY plays with them anymore the only thing I do know is Gowan is doing vocals/keyboards and from everything I've heard from people that have seen them they put on a great concert.

Have to wait and see what the rest of the guys have to say before this goes beyond just another short lived story.

^^The Eagles said the same thing and look how that played out...:lmao:

Sounds to me like Shaw and JY just don't want Dennis back...period. Kind of sad but we'll never know all the behind the scenes stuff that caused the schism in the first place.

I've never particularly cared for Dennis' voice, I've always preferred Tommy's compositions... but regardless, there will always be more $$$$$ with the classic lineup of Styx (of course except for the drummer who passed on) than for a group with replacement members. The same has happened with Journey lately too. While Journey currently does better than Styx does these days... as big as their shows draw in people, you can bet on doubling the attendance if Neal Schon just quit being stubborn and offered Perry his job back. Same with Styx and DeYoung.

^^I've always liked Dennis's voice, all of their best albums have him front and center.

But from the sounds of things, his gesture will come to nothing, not if Shaw and JY don't want him back, even for a one of. I think they are also happy with Gowan, and to have this kind of talk going on would affect how he feels. He's earned some consideration for stepping into DeYoung's shoes years ago.

Perry back with Journey...? I rather like the replacement vocalist and although Magic would smack me for saying this, a Little Steve Perry goes a long way with me.:peek

I would LOVE to see a Styx reunion with Dennis. I doubt it'll ever happen. I don't even remember what caused the bad blood between James and Dennis, but apparently it's still pretty damn strong. That's too bad.

Of all of the 70's bands that I'd love to see a full fledged reunion of, this one would be near the top of my list.

Currently, Dennis is touring solo, in fact, he's here tonight opening up for Pat Benatar at one of the local casinos. I really thought about going to it, but in the end, just kind of forgot about it until it was almost too late.
