I am only a fan of the Coverdale version of Purple, so I am not that knowledgeable of the history of Purple, behind the scenes of the band or the relationship between members then and now.

I was just curious if any die hard Purple fans know if Paice and Lord had any problem with essentially going from boss to employee when they joined Whitesnake years later. I could be wrong, but I don't think they had much of a career after Purple was over and probably joined Whitesnake because they needed the money and it was the only offer either of them really had.

I never see either talk about Coverdale now, unless they are referring to his time in Purple, so does anyone know if there was a little bitterness having to go from boss to the employee of a guy that they discovered and help make a rock star in the first place.

If anyone knows what went on behind the scenes, I would appreciate if you could provide the info.

Thanks!

As far as I know about Lord joining to Whitesnake wanted to spend more time with his family, but Coverdale wanted him in his band so badly that eventually Jon accepted. I'm not sure what about Ian Paice. He went to another band (together with Lord), released an album and been asked in 1979 by Coverdale to join Whitesnake for a tour and stayed for 3 years.

It happens. There is no reason for Lord or Paice to be bent out of shape about going from giving orders in Purple to taking them in Whitesnake. They chose to join David's band on their own and presumably did so because they got along with him pretty good.

There is no evidence that they have any hard feelings toward Coverdale that I have ever seen. They probably just don't rate Whitesnake along side of Deep Purple ( like many others ) and so don't talk much about their short stay with that band.

Wow. Never heard that before...

Just curious...how could you not like Deep Purple with Ian Gillan?

I mean, if you prefer Coverdale over Gillian, that's cool...

but, you're not a fan of Deep Purple before Coverdale - not at the very least?

I was just curious if any die hard Purple fans know if Paice and Lord had any problem with essentially going from boss to employee when they joined Whitesnake years later.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure Paice and Lord didn't feel like ''hired guns'' that were working for Coverdale. These guys were rock legends at the time. I'm sure Coverdale was honored to have them in Whitesnake. I'm just a fan, not an expert - so, this is just my opinion.

Not the first time that sort of role reversal had happened anyway. Granted it is on a much smaller scale but when a guy like Zakk Wylde cuts a solo project which Ozzy guests on, Bruce Kulick cuts a solo record which Gene Simmons appears on or Duff McKagan cuts a solo record which Axl Rose guests on, it is the same sort of thing. The guy doing the record is calling the shots, whether the boss of his regular outfit is around or not.

Bad examples, all of the above, but I am writing this as I wait for some hot dogs to fry and haven't got time to fully run my "fact checker."
