CUBY AND THE BLIZZARDS.

Official Website

cuby1.jpg

Cuby and the Blizzards are a Dutch bluesband from Grollo situated in the province of Groningen.

The original line-up formed in 1968:

Harry Muskee – vocals
Eelco Gelling – guitar
Nico Schröder – bass
Hans Kinds – rhythm guitar
Wim Kinds – drums

Later famous Dutch singer Herman Brood joined the band. He played the piano.

Why a thread about Cuby? Simply because Cuby are my favourite Dutch band. I listen to them more often than Golden Earing and Focus. Very emotional blues.

The band in those days played on tour with Van Morrison, Eddy Boyd, Alexis Korner and John Mayal and the Bluesbreakers.

In 1969 the line-up changed dramatically. Only Muskee and Gelling remained.

Eelco left the band in 1977 for Golden Earing. The name was changed into Haary Muskee Band, The Muskee Gang and later on Muskee. More on those bands later in the thread.

The singer and founder Harry Muskee sadly died in September 2011.

^^Interesting you mentioned Van Morrison, I've only been able to listen to their "Crying Tears" song though it got me thinking of Van Morrison and his Astral Weeks album. :) Clapton is another name which comes to mind, I played "Crying Tears" for a friend at work and they thought it had a bit of "Cream" about the song. :) John Mayall and the Blue Breakers also had an album Featuring Eric Clapton, haven't played it in a while, thought it's another nice album, I think this was something Clapton was during in-between his time after leaving the Yardbirds, though before joining up with Cream. Another Clapton connection I noticed in there was the song "Five Long Years". It's a song from the "Five Live Yardbirds" album in 1965 which was during Clapton's time with the Yardbirds on Lead Guitar. Year's later in more recent times Clapton performed the song live from one of his Concerts on DVD.

It's good to see something about this band.
Unfortunately, I only have King Of The World (but it's better to have one album by a band than to have none at all).
I also have Herman Brood & His Wild Romance (1979) which I need to revisit.

Trippin' Thru a Midnight Blues was released in 1968. Inspiration for the cover was Their Satanic Majestic’s request from the Rolling Stones.

The single of this album is Window of My Eyes. Their most succesful one in their history. It was Harry Muskee's favorite 'Cuby' song.

Appleknockers Flophouse is their third official studio release. Recorded in 1969.

The album title refers to bad housing conditions.

Only recently discovered this band but I'm hooked. The Dutch had some really good music that the rest of the world just never got.
There music is so hard to get so I appreciate all the links posted here. Thanks for the great thread:)
