DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Symphony Orchestra said Tuesday it will play a series of "cannabis-friendly" fundraising concerts sponsored by the state's burgeoning pot industry.

The state's only full-time professional orchestra hopes the unusual shows dubbed "Classically Cannabis: The High Note Series" will boost its audience as it struggles with dwindling attendance and shrinking budgets.

"The cannabis industry obviously opens the door even further to a younger, more diverse audience," symphony CEO Jerome Kern told The Associated Press.

In return for sponsorship, marijuana-related companies get "the legitimacy of being associated with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra." he said.

The event, however, is strictly BYOC — bring your own cannabis, according to an events listing on the symphony website that says pot will not be sold.

Ha I was thinking about the other thread and how I got into classical music? I started listening to classical after smoking and drinking at my friends house. However, that hasn't been true since the early days. Now I put classical on when I'm in the mood usually in the morning.

^^I'm similar AK, I love classical early in the day.

I would have no problem 'smoking' and going to listen to Beethoven, no different to me than having a couple 'pops' and seeing your band perform live.:D

I do wonder though if and when the changes politically take place if both Colorado and Washington will have to 'roll back' their relaxed marijuana laws, this depends on the federal government and whether they will enforce the existing laws or not.

I don't know, LG. IMHO, I think the Federal Govt should relax their laws on marijuana and put their efforts into other more lethal drugs.....

As more and more states put marijuana on the votes to legalize it, the govt has to follow what the people want.

I'm all for legalization for health reasons concerning people who need it and also selfishly so people would shut up about it and not have it be a big deal. I'm not cool with it being endorsed as an accompaniment to normal things which are fine on their own. God knows we don't need any more encouragement for burnouts to increase in numbers and bring their lifestyle into even more venues.

I don't see any difference between selling beer at a baseball game or allowing people who want to have a puff to do so. It's hypocritical the way society looks at this, it's a fabric of society now and the days of frantic paranoia "reefer madness" should be long over.

I think people who go to concerts to get drunk are ****tards so it's not a matter of bias to me! :D I have no problem with either substance and don't hold alcohol above or under pot. I just don't hear alcohol glorified all the time. I'm for the legalization of weed for two reasons. #1. If it numbs people up medically to alleviate their pain that's great! People use whiskey for the same thing! :heheh: #2. So once the stigma is gone people will get bored with it and shut the Hell up about it! :heheh: There are people that use both responsibly and aren't walking poster boards for it. I'm cool with that! I don't believe good music is enhanced by anything but a good set of ears. I'm seen far to many poster boys for how weed kills brain cells as I just had a coworker recently who couldn't remember anything short term or even focus on anything I said. Every time pot came up in any sense I had to hear a speech on how it doesn't hurt anything. Thankfully after being vocal enough I don't have to deal with him anymore. Anyway, like anything I'm sure it effects everyone differently but I'm tired of people justifying the substance as harmless and like the most healing substance of earth rather than just admitting they simply want to puff away at a substance that helps them escape. People with alcohol simply know what it is and nothing more. :)
