Coldplay is one of the best bands of the new millenium by far! The hate they get is something I really can't understand and probably never will. You may not like them ... But they clearly aren't one of the worst bands in existence.

Agreed. I've heard comments being made about the vocalist, which I do not understand. He's not even that bad, in fact, he's incredibly talented in my opinion.

So iTunes is streaming one song per day from the new album until its release, and tonight I got to preview "Us Against the World" and it made me even more excited for the new album! One of my top ever Coldplay tracks is "Kingdom Come" and the new one has that same simple, stripped feel that I appreciate about that song and Chris Martin shows off his beautiful pipes in this one as well. Definitely reminds me of something that would have been featured on Parachutes or A Rush of Blood to the Head and not that fast-paced formula they've been going with on their last two albums. I have a hard time finding it on YouTube as of yet (besides live versions which DO NOT do it justice) so check it out on iTunes. :grinthumb

Oh morning come bursting, the clouds, they move
Lift off this blindfold, let me see again
And bring back the water, that your ships rode in
In my heart you left a hole

The tightrope that I’m walking just sways and ties
The devil as he’s talking with those angel’s eyes
And I just want to be there when the lightning strikes
And the saints go marching in

And sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down

Through chaos as it swirls
It’s just us against the world

Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend
My drunken as a Daniel iin a lion's den
And tonight I know it all has to begin again
So whatever you do, don’t let go

And if we could float away
Fly up to the surface and just start again
And lift off before trouble
Just erodes us in the rain (x3)

Sing slow-ow-ow-ow it down
Oh Slow-ow-ow-ow it down

Through chaos as it swirls
It’s just us against the world
Through chaos as it swirls
It’s us against the worl

And here it is. One of THE most beautiful songs by this band period. I'm hooked.

Got the hard copy of the new album today and was jamming out to this one on the way home. Probably the best song on their new album! As a huge Coldplay fan this song gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it as I thought "They're back!" This album is Coldplay in fine fashion.

And here is the much hyped Rihanna/Coldplay collaboration "Princess of China". It's alright, not the best. I suppose it'll take time to grow on me as I'm not used to Coldplay collaborations.

So...I got about 3/4 of the way through the new album, and I had to stop listening. It seems like Coldplay put a little TOO much into this one. I'm not saying it's bad, and i'm also not saying it's bad if you like or love the album, but my first impression of it is not that good. There's far too much echo in Chris Martin's voice to even concentrate on his vocals, and there is too much instrumentals going on in the background. I'll give it another listen in a day or two, but i'm not too fond of it at the moment.

I can't believe you're not liking it so far! But you know, it took forever for "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" to grow on me so maybe the album will eventually grow on you too. I think this one is ten times better than Viva la Vida and almost as good as X&Y! Those are the two albums it's most comparable too. But that's the thing about Coldplay: each album boasts something completely different that can alienate some fans and attract others as new ones. I'm sure it will get a lashing from a lot of people but I love the new album personally. :grinthumb

It's a grower, that's for sure. I'll listen to it again tomorrow morning/afternoon. Second time through will probably be better than the first time. I gotta learn to not be in a critical/reviewing mood when I listen to new material, I think that's what turned me off from the album. I'll go into it with a completely refreshed open mind next time, and hopefully i'll enjoy it more.

That's why I was glad iTunes was previewing a new song each day up until the album release date. It gave me a chance to appreciate the new songs I heard for what they were all on their own rather than the overall experience of the whole album. I actually like the idea!

Gave it another listen, and I am definitely happy to report that it is growing on me. Still taking some adjusting to the echoes of Martin's vocals and the instrumentals in the background, but it's different to me, and I like it.

On my 3rd listen now, and I am enjoying it as much as I was hoping I would at the start. Definitely goes to show that the quality that you listen to it at can really alter how you receive it. I don't really hear echoes anymore, so it must have been a speaker issue on my laptop. Good to know.

As for the album in general, a lot of really good songs, and Chris Martin sounds as incredible as he should. A few of my favorites so far:

I like how this has the slower Coldplay feel to it. Takes me back to the A Rush of Blood To The Head days. Very good tune. The addition of the acoustic guitar is a nice touch as well, really brings the whole song together into one brilliant piece.

An extraordinarily catchy song. Not much I can really say about it without giving too much of the excitement away.

Still listening to the album, but I know i'm going to enjoy it now.
