I just picked up Chuck Berry Live at the Fillmore which is a good CD. What's cool is that Steve Miller is in the backup band!

As a musician, there is no doubt about his legacy. He influenced everybody, you can hear the Stones and the Beatles but also Dylan in his songs. Even if he recycled the same riffs a bit often, but I guess rock 'n' roll was still being invented.

As a human being... I'm not sure. I can't help but wonder why he's not guesting on all those celebrity fan's records, why there hasn't been a tribute album (like Carlos Santana, Willie Nelson, John Fogerty,... got).

Maybe he doesn't want it. OR (my guess) he's burned a few bridges along the way. Keith Richards once organized a tribute concert in the 80's, and in the interview bits of the concert film ("Hail hail rock 'n' roll", worth checking out) he looked a little dissappointed in his hero - there's a bit where you can see Berry schooling Keith Richards in front of everyone.

It's too bad, the guy is in his late eighties and still plays. I would love to hear an album of new material by "Chuck Berry and guests".

Oh, speaking of "live" Berry recordings: he scored his last number 1 in the early seventies with a live rendition of a song called "My ding-a-ling". An intentionally dumb song, but listen to the version on the LP. It's almost like standup, Berry has these hippies singing along to this silly song, follows it with a blisterin "Johnny B Goode" and then... several minutes of the crowd demanding more, while the organizers of the festival are trying to get them to stop because Pink Floyd was supposed to go on.

looking over the discography, there are a couple of 70s albums that i am missing, other than that i am covered, with chess in fact twice over (just in case). he is my hero, saw him live eight times, but the last time he visited denmark, i didn't go, and the review said he flopped badly. so time to hang up the old guitar, i guess. studio is a different thing altogether, he could probably knock out an album's worth of songs, in fact, this had already been anounced some four or five years ago. glad it will come to fruition.

YAY!!! I was hoping it was still coming out! Chuck Berry is probably my biggest influence on guitar. I have so many cover tunes of Chuck's...in fact still to this day since 1977 when I first started collecting music I always tend to buy any album if I see a Chuck Berry cover tune on it! I was front row in 1987 for Chuck Berry & Joan Jett. During Rollover Beethoven They were pulling some of the crowd up on stage & I was the first so I was right next to Chuck. He even held out his guitar for me to hit the strings
