What are some albums that you feel need to be given the whole remaster/reissue treatment, either to put them back in common circulation or to replace a previous, badly done reissue?

Rush's Vapor Trails. The material is so strong yet it was mastered way too hot and thus sounds like crap. Rush's records always sound awesome. I was mortified the first time I heard this with headphones on. Thankfully, a remixed remastered version is on the way.

This amazing album is stunning in the original vinyl format and the CD I bought is one of the worst I have ever listened to, they managed to lose the entire drum kit during the mastering process to digital. I do have an MFSL CD version which is quite a bit better, but nothing sounds as good as the old vinyl record. And no buggering around with the loudness settings either these new engineers are ruining old classic albums by effing up the natural balance, which then throws the whole CD out of whack.:mad

Just a few I'm longing for :uh:

John Sloman - Disappearances Can Be Deceptive... - Brilliant melodic AOR album, this one is as hard as hen's teeth to find (To that guy on eBay who sniped me last week, you know who you are). It was redone for the iTunes store last year, but I'd absolutely kill for a proper CD reissue of this one.

Graham Bonnet - Graham Bonnet & No Bad Habits - Voiceprint Records redid these in '09, but they were just lazily copied vinyl transfers. I'm hoping someone one day redoes these from the masters, and actually puts on the others tracks from the different regions on No Bad Habits.

St. Paradise - St Paradise - I'm fairly certain this one hasn't ever actually been put on CD. Pretty standard hard rock of the era, but the album packs some brilliant hooks. Quite possibly the stupidest album cover ever, though :heheh:

Hopefully someone from Rock Candy Records sees my little rant and takes notice! :D

^^Rock Candy records....? Is that an actual record label RC?

Here's another album that fell way short on CD, my favorite Kansas record "Leftoverture". One of the best songs to show the difference is "Magnum Opus", on the old vinyl album the smokin' guitar solo by Rich Williams at the beginning of the track sends a shiver up my spine, on the CD it is almost lost completely. I have no idea how that could happen, it's usually percussion that is the hardest to transfer properly from analog to digital.

Anyway, I might end up trying to find a used vinyl copy one of these days.

Mhmm, it's a company specialising in 70s-80s hard rock and AOR reissues based out of England. They've done some pretty nifty stuff (Their remastering quality is always A-grade), many a good album has been put back into circulation thanks to them (They did one of Steve Walsh's solo albums not too long ago, IIRC).

Is that an issue with the remaster or the original CD issue?

I can think of many from the late 60's/early 70's though in the last ten years many have been remastered.

Speech(1972) from Steamhammer. Not bad sound quality however a good remaster would capture that etheral sonic sound and the heavy dark ambiences of the album.

Both, I have the original release and the remaster. The remastered version is a little better but still doesn't have the....raw feel that the vinyl album has, and the original mastertapes are good because Leftoverture sounded great the first time I listened to it the year it came out, 1975 I think it was.
