What are some albums that you believe were the breakthrough for many bands?


I'll get started with a few that I believe were both great albums and also significant breakthrough releases for the bands, too, imo!



The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced?

Both an excellent debut album, and was a great breakthrough for Jimi Hendrix and The Experience, imo!



Jethro Tull - This Was

This Was introduced many people to Jethro Tull, with excellent songs, performances and also to Ian Anderson and his cool, unique styles of flute playing, too, imo!



Black Sabbath - S/T

What a breakthrough album, imo! Some people may not have known what was to be revealed with this album, and perhaps some folks didn't want to know with looking at that album jacket, but this album was certainly a breakthrough album for Black Sabbath, with many great songs, dark lyrical content and heavy riffage!

All of these albums were terrific when I first heard them many years ago, and have been favorites for many years, and will remain so for me, too!

Rocker440 are we talking debut albums or the album that really catapulted the band ??

I think Demons And Wizards really put Uriah Heep onto another level even though it's their 4th album.



However I really rate the debut as well.

Rush 2112. They figured they would go out on their terms. They were told to abandon the side long epics so they go and start out with another side long story about the individual against the masses. Us Rush heads loved it and bought it up buying the band the freedom to do what they want. 2112 was way ahead of its time like so many of Rush's compositions and remains fresh and relevant today.

Here's an old favorite of mine, bought it when it was released and because of "Taking Care of Business" it finally got BTO some airplay and they went on to great heights the next 3 years.

I think BTO don't always get the praise they deserve Randy is a superb guitar player IMO ,, but yeah it was aimed at 2112 first.

He is one of our legends, I really like that album as well, Give it Time, Welcome Home, Stonegates...a really solid record. My copy had a "bubble" in the vinyl, I got so used to it when I finally got the CD I thought something was wrong...

I might even play it and some Rush tonight I think.
