I couldn't agree with you more. A couple years into the 80s were promising but then it got drenched in saccharine.

Finding songs that are fun to play and go over well is fairly easy if you keep the list somewhat 'modular'. I mean learn a bunch of tunes and rotate hem so you don' get stuck in a rut. Don't be afraid to fall on your face once in a while (no really). Some of he best versions of songs we ever did were when no one really knew if we could pull it off and yet...

Anyway if you are looking for ideas I'll list some:

My God/ Hymn 43 - Jethro Tull
Sweet FA - Sweet (pretty much anything by Sweet)
Whippin Post - Allman Brothers
See Emily Play - Pink Floyd
House of the Rising Sun - Animals
Fire - Hendrix
La Woman - The Doors
Hanky Panky - The Shondells
Heart of the Sunrise - Yes
The Wonton Song - Led Zeppelin
The Seeker - The Who
Rock Around the Clock - Bill Haley and the Comets
That's Alright Mama - Elvis
Walk Away - James Gang
Marshall Tucker Band - Can't You See
Blackfoot - Train
Used To Love Her - Rolling Stones version
I just Wanna Make Love to You - Foghat version
