Been playing some mellow Joni Mitchell today, and I thought she pretty much nailed every album from Song to a Seagull in 1968.... through to Hejira in 1976 (8 more or less flawless albums)...but then for me it all came to a crashing halt with Don Juan's Reckless Daughter when she got heavily into that jazz fusion stuff that she'd been experimenting with on a couple of earlier tracks. It's not that I don't like a bit of jazz fusion, it's just that I don't like entire albums of the stuff played by folksy singer songwriters trying to re-invent themselves.

BLAST!!!

This was the first trio to pop into my head.

Creatively, Queen really hit their musical stride here. Three very full, rich and well done albums.

Very busy, musically, a lot of different and interesting things going on, but in no way cluttered.

Quite the opposite, really. A rich experience.

Hmmm....guess I know what I'll be listening to this evening.:)

Went back through the thread to make sure I don't duplicate someone's picks.

Bachman Turner Overdrive:

BTO
BTO II
Not Fragile

I play my vinyl copies regularly, I grew up with BTO and I still enjoy their music 40+ years later.

Jimi Hendrix Experience:

Are You Experienced (1967)
Axis: Bold As Love (1967)
Electric Lady Land (1968)

Stevie Ray Vaughan:

Texas Flood (1983)
Couldn't Stand the Weather (1984)
Soul to Soul (1985)
In Step (1989)

ETA: I read through the thread, and it appears I replicated some picks..oh well.

Rush-start with Caress Of Steel (1975) and go up to Grace Under Pressure (1984) and pick any three in a row. Heck, maybe even include the first 3 in a row, S/T, FBN, and CoS.

Another band in the same boat as ARS, they never seemed to get the respect I felt they earned.

The Doobie Brothers:

Toulouse Street
What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits
Captain And Me
Stampede

I have all of them on vinyl now, but am waiting for the MFSL release of Stampede whenever they get around to pressing it.

I agree LG. The Doobies are absolutely top drawer, despite the fact they changed the band line-up virtually every year, or at least a bewildering number of times. All those Ted Templeman produced albums you mentioned are pure magic. In fact I'm now going to dig a couple out later and remind myself, so, thanks!! They dumped TT as producer back in the 80's, and it showed, but then went back to him producing with their last album World Gone Crazy a couple of years ago, which was a brilliant return to form. There's 4 or 5 albums of theirs I don't have, which I sampled and didn't like, but they were very consistent for many years, and still touring, I read they're doing a big outdoor show on Long Island this summer, so I think I will try to go.
