For the first time in over twenty years, The Beach Boys will reunite to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards show. Founding members Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine, will be joined by David Marks and Bruce Johnston for this special event.
This will actually be the first time this entire lineup of surviving members has ever performed together in public. Marks was a member early on, and Johnston joined the band in 1965. Marks and Johnston have been both a part of a recent lineups, kept going through the years by Mike Love, but this will be the first time all surviving members have assembled to play. Both Carl and Dennis Wilson have long passed away, Carl in 1998 and Dennis in 1983.
The band, which also includes John Cowsill (yes, of The Cowsills) on drums, will team with Grammy nominees Foster The People and Maroon 5 for this special performance. What they will be doing, we’re not exactly sure. A ‘Fun Fun Fun’/'Pumped Up Kicks’ medley perhaps? Guess we will have to tune in to find out. Also featured during the star studded lineup that evening will be Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Foo Fighters, Glen Campbell, and Paul McCartney to name but a few.
The Beach Boys are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year with a big summer tour and yet another anthology collection. Hot off the heels of last year’s critically acclaimed ‘Smile Sessions‘ box set, interest in The Beach Boys is, shall we say, riding yet another big wave of popularity. The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 12 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast on CBS starting at 8pm EST.
