That is interesting, but not relevant to Ian's music career with the Bay City Rollers. His Bay City Roller days were very short in duration, 7 months, although he did gigs with them in their revival days of the 80's.
It is my understanding he still uses the name 'Bay City Rollers ft. Ian Mitchell, but is the only member of the band that is a true BCR.

I'm sure this was a skit, from what show I don't know, as they were primarily a teen girl band in the 70's.
The old audience was not only impossible but funny for a skit at that time.
