You know you love him! I will bet my farm, you have danced with a special someone to at least one song by Manilow. :D

His musical career began in 1973, the same year of his first album release:

which produced this song, which uses Frédéric Chopin's Prelude in C Minor

Manilow is a highly decorated singer-songwriter, and still packs out his concert arenas.

Could It Be Magic is EASILY my favorite tune by Barry Manilow. This version that you posted Magic... not the other "snappier" version. This one has so much emotion in the music and in his singing.

In short, I love this track!!!!

Me too, Lynch. Manilow is a very gifted musician, pianist, singer, producer, and songwriter...but you have to like that contemporary stuff :D

Maybe his second album release will jog some peoples memories:

I have to give these game makers credit, they do expose kids to some great artists and songs, Mandy is on the Sims 2 game.

Re: Barry Manilow

I actually own a Manilow CD. I know, I know. But the catch is that it's his "jazz" album 2AM Paradise Cafe. When it came out, the critics were pretty unanimous in its praise, though they admitted being puzzled about whether it would be commerically successful. They said Manilow fans wouldn't buy it because it was too jazzy (it included turns by Gerry Mulligan, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme, among others), and jazz fans wouldn't buy it because it was a Manilow album.

If you can get past the fact that it's Barry Manilow I think you'd all find it worthwhile listening.

Also, I always loved the irony that one of his biggest hits, "I Write the Songs" was not written by him, but instead by Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys, if memory serves me. :D

You are correct sir. I do also remember reading somewhere at some point that Bruce explained that the song isn't written from the aspect of "the writer" writes the songs but actually meaning that "the music" writes the songs.

I could be wrong about that though.
