lol Iron Maiden have not sounded exactly the same on every single album. They do have that core sound to be heard on their albums but most albums have subtle differences. Would be nuts to say their first album sounds the same as say Seventh Son or The Final Frontier. Maiden in the latter material have had more progressive tendencies than their older works.

Sorry I have to disagree with you there. Their last album that was truly great was "black in black " everything they have released since then has been the regurgitation of the same sound.
I always hear the "if it ain't broke why fix it" excuse, but I believe that is a complete cop out. Other classic metal groups have evolved. But ac/dc have just remained hidden behind the same sound they produced in 1980.
I believe it's down to johnstones voice, you can't really do much else with it.
If Bon Scott had survived I believe they would have evolved. And made some intelligent hard blues rock. But all I see are a bunch of creative cowards. And they still sell craploads of albums, which says more about the fans than them. I've met a few ac/dc fans and they never seemed like the sharpest knives in the rock fandom drawyer.
If it ain't broke don't fix it?
Should led zeppelin have copied the sound of Iv ?, deep purple machine head? Fleetwood mac rumors ?, no these bands evolved and excelled along with countless other rock and metal bands .
Sorry just a rant that has been building up for 27 years.( 1988's blow up your video was the year I noticed this about ac/dc.
He'll even Metallica evolved, they peeved off a few fans but they evolved and still sold albums.

Well we can agree to disagree then. I think AC/DC can do whatever the **** they want, if making just hard rock is their thing then who is anyone else to say otherwise? Metallica have evolved on every album they ever did. Evolution works for some bands, not every single band though. Actually evolve is not a word for Metallica necessarily. Evolve implies it changes for the better but not all of their sound changes have been better. I appreciate bands who evolve their sound but I also like numerous bands who do something they like doing even if it happens to be formulaic. If the band only does something because of solely what the fans want then it becomes an issue.

''If it ain't broke don't fix it?''
People say this because it is true for some bands. Some bands like playing a particular type of music and its fine if some dislike that philosophy but its their music and they can do what really they desire.

Don't apologise for ranting, I totally understand and respect your point of view on AC/DC. I disagree but I get why you and others probably feel the same way.

Ok fair enough, but I wish the folks who buy the albums would stop touting ac/dc as the pinnacle of musical excellence. Because staying the same doesn't really scream out that they are making good albums. I'm sure acdc have the talent to successfully evolve... They just refuse to do that.
Many many bands have evolved and stayed true to their original sound. It's called intelligence. Sure Metallica may not have pleased you with many of their releases, but at least they try. Even if they fail they gave it a go. Which I really gave to put my hands together for them....
And acdc's lack of evolution is exactly there adorn why they will never be on the same level as led zeppelin, deep purple and black sabbath. And why Angus young will never garner as much interest in his playing as page, Blackmore, beck, van halen etc. because these guys showed how brilliant they are as guitar players through evolution.
The only people I hear Rave about youngs playing are ac/dc fans.
To be honest I believe that in 300 years time, when people want to indulge in 20th century hard rock they are going to head for zeppelin, sabbath and deep purple long before they head to the likes of ac/dc.

Actually the reason I say they are making good albums is because the music to me has always been enjoyable. Bearing in mind this is all opinion based and not factual.

Haha exactly. That's all that matters anyway... whether one personally enjoys a band's music or not. I had nothing against Iron Maiden fans either when I made that casual comment. To each their own.

I haven't really enjoyed their (AC/DC) releases since Flick of the Switch. To me they seem to have lost their fire after that. But hey, I know a lot of people who disagree. To me the truely great stuff was Bon Scott era. And I agree Maiden is far different now then 82 though still retain the Maiden blue print if you will.

Flick of the Switch is underrated to the max. I think Fly On The Wall was alright but had a couple of forgettable songs. And whilst I said I enjoy their albums as a whole I do critique Fly and Blow up Your Video on average production. The latter sounded really sterile especially the bass and drums.

Flick of the Switch is the last really good AC/DC album. But I already said that. It is highly underrated.

"Black Ice" was awesome, I hope this one will be just as good! "Man Down" would be a good title. I can't wait!

Man Down is a good title, good tribute to their current incapacitated founding member. Like asked in the main thread, I wonder if Stevie Young (Angus and Mal's nephew) actually wrote or if he just recorded the songs.
