Well we can agree to disagree then. I think AC/DC can do whatever the **** they want, if making just hard rock is their thing then who is anyone else to say otherwise? Metallica have evolved on every album they ever did. Evolution works for some bands, not every single band though. Actually evolve is not a word for Metallica necessarily. Evolve implies it changes for the better but not all of their sound changes have been better. I appreciate bands who evolve their sound but I also like numerous bands who do something they like doing even if it happens to be formulaic. If the band only does something because of solely what the fans want then it becomes an issue.
''If it ain't broke don't fix it?''
People say this because it is true for some bands. Some bands like playing a particular type of music and its fine if some dislike that philosophy but its their music and they can do what really they desire.
Don't apologise for ranting, I totally understand and respect your point of view on AC/DC. I disagree but I get why you and others probably feel the same way.
Ok fair enough, but I wish the folks who buy the albums would stop touting ac/dc as the pinnacle of musical excellence. Because staying the same doesn't really scream out that they are making good albums. I'm sure acdc have the talent to successfully evolve... They just refuse to do that.
Many many bands have evolved and stayed true to their original sound. It's called intelligence. Sure Metallica may not have pleased you with many of their releases, but at least they try. Even if they fail they gave it a go. Which I really gave to put my hands together for them....
And acdc's lack of evolution is exactly there adorn why they will never be on the same level as led zeppelin, deep purple and black sabbath. And why Angus young will never garner as much interest in his playing as page, Blackmore, beck, van halen etc. because these guys showed how brilliant they are as guitar players through evolution.
The only people I hear Rave about youngs playing are ac/dc fans.
To be honest I believe that in 300 years time, when people want to indulge in 20th century hard rock they are going to head for zeppelin, sabbath and deep purple long before they head to the likes of ac/dc.
